another blown 2nd gear thread
Upgrade or have a boring/trouble filled ownership with a really fun car. No launches and no hard pulls on 2:nd totally kill the thing with this "low top speed" topless car IMO.
I got two full months of joy before it blew and that´s not bad at all with MT Radials mounted 90% of the time. Could buy another OEM tranny but hate to change parts all the time, better to upgrade and think about other weak parts.

Is there anyone that DOES have good luck with the stock trans/diff?
I think it has been proven that they cant hold up to the launches/hard shifts/2nd gear pulls.
But what about the guys out there that don't drive like animals? Do they exist?
I am just getting started putting everything on my car, have no track plans, and only plan to really get into boost while I am in 3rd or higher (on stock driveline). I DD it to and from work (about 15 miles) and local cruise nights/shows, and rarely street race anymore.
I Decided to go FI to have some extra power on tap(lets be frank, they are SLOW stock) for when that 18yo kid pulls up along side on the highway in daddys car. I used to race quite often, but as I have gotten older it has become less important to me, and just driving/enjoying the car has replaced it. My last car was a full out track/street car and I got sick of always working on it, replacing trannys ect ect, and while I do have another car, the track route is not what I plan to do with this one.
Anyone else use their S in a similar manner with good results?

I'll be the asshole. Just limit boost to 10ish in first and second, don't slam gears and hope for the best. The drivetrain is wek saus. No one here can guarantee your shit will hold up.
I went to track and hopped the f@#k out of the car. It even popped out of gear. Thankfully nothing broke.
Typically u don't break 2nd in gear until 400wtq but it ain't an exact science.

Nothing Asshole'ish there at all man!
Although the boost pressure really has nothing to do with it, its all about the TQ. I'm sure plenty of people with greddy kits have no issue w/10psi in 2nd, however throw something like a 35R or larger that actually moves some air at 10psi and we're gonna have some issues.
You are telling it like it is, people have broken things with a stock NA car, and there really isn't an exact science too it. I was just trying to feel out how all you guys that have grenade'd stuff, really drive the car.
I put 6 trannys through my last car, but I was on slicks, flat shifting 1-5 and at the track all the time. Under those circumstances, I was prepared for failure. I don't plan to use my s2000 in nearly the same manner.
I had really bad wheel hop 3x at the track, never slam gears, make 400 ft lbs of torque, but limit boost to 12lbs in 1st & 2nd and I have 110,000 on the car. Only time I have floored it in 2nd was witht he greddy kit that made no torque, and only about 4-5 times since I got the 35r. I shift very slowly and double cluth/Rev Match with EVERY downshift. No metal in Tranny fluid/ and or Diff fluid.
I am sure I am on limited time, howevever keeping the shifts slow and limiting the Boost certainly helps.
