You don't need the BOV but its good extra protection against overboost. Also you will get the cool blowoff sound - if thats what you want.
You can also mount a BOV with a tee hose coupling (no welding), a link to it was posted in FI somewhere by mugen rio I think.

karno -- what exhaust did you use before the GReddy.. stock? and what size is the GReddy piping and tip?
brilliant -- I'm interested to see your dyno chart with the HKS exhaust. Theoretically, the HKS should be a bit too restrictive, but I'm curious how well it will / will not work.

I'm really interested in finding out what the cause of these problems are, especially since there are plenty of people out there running the kit fine with the greddy basemap. i wish more of the people who have the basemap and are running fine would chime in... i KNOW some are on the forums, just haven't seen this thread.
i'm guessing my exhaust will dyno like stock, but maybe a little better b/c i am going to be running no cat. tune isnt until next wed though.
anyways, i am hoping my problems are only due to the incorrect base map being supplied to me by greddy. we'll find out next week.
eventually I think i'm going to upgrade to a 20G turbo. i think greddy said it uses the same manifold.

Someone correct me if im wrong...
BUT, isnt everyone saying you should NOT be running a test pipe and you SHOULD be running the cat.. since greddy tuned it for that?
Is it possible that since there is less backpressure the turbo is spooling too much causing overboost, then causing detonation/spark knock and and the emanage is pulling timing or fuel?
Sounds to me like that would cause your limit in horse power.. if you look at the graph does it go up then go down suddenly?
Do you have a boost gauge on the car?

just to clarify. my first dyno was with CAT on and I did not overboost but in fact UNDERBOOSTED to 6 psi. Furthermore, my peak whp was 201 at 7K rpm. to which the a/f was too rich and my tuner did not want to bust the cat. I will be returning on wednesday of next week for him to make a fresh map with test pipe. I'm assuming I should yield ok numbers with a brand new map. Neither him nor I could think of another reason I was not making any power other than an incorrect map.
I am not going to be using greddy's map as some of us are having issues with it.
p.s. vtec was not engaging.

Fantastic... i guess they assumed the tolerances of the gasket would make up for the lack of attention to detail... thats ok. i might port match mine and clean up the slag... good for .01 ponies. but +700 piece of mind points...

i dont think they will have much to say though. oh yeah and my shop had to resurface their manifold because it wasnt flush.
