You guys don't understand what he's trying to say. He's not saying that everybody should get the car dynod after every mod. But if you didn't dyno your car before and after then you have no idea if you gained a single thing and you shouldn't go around telling people that you felt about a 6.8whp increase because your ass dyno isn't that well calibrated. I personally don't mind doing before and after dynos since its only 20 bucks and it gives me piece of mind I actually wasted money on something that helps. If not that ill take the part off, go back to stock and sell. Why would I spend money to lose hp assuming that's the case.
Uhhh, when I started the thread on how to gain torque, most, if not all, of the people were giving me suggestions. I don't recall anyone saying they got x amount of hp from their ass dyno. turbosix just came in my thread and basically insulted all of the people who were trying to help me when I was happy with most of the responses I got. I'm not sure why he would do that... I didn't expect dynos from the people, even though it would have been nice, I was just looking for suggestions.

And is really only $20 to get a baseline then install a part and do another pull? I would think it would cost a little more. Looks like I learned something new today.

I feel you there......if folks are giving false numbers out from the ass dyno then yes that doesn't help anyone.

And on the other hand people cant expect members to go out and dyno after every part and sticker they slap on their car either.

IMO....the only dyno worthy parts are the CAI, catbacks, headers, etc. The large $$$$ items that claim HP.

Seriosuly dude.

Turning your car on puts wear and tear on your car...

he was using it as an excuse to not dyno the car. the car is designed to last and is not as fragile as the poster leads to believe. maintain your car and it will give you years of service. do you cringe everytime you get on the gas in the car? do you resist starting it and worry of the damage you have already cuased driving to the store? if your going to take the literal translation of what he said, then get rid of your car and walk, oh wait, you will put wear and tear on your body.

hmnmmmm, see what i mean?

dont take stuff so literal. read between the lines to see what the OP that i quoted meant.

hence my statement, FAIL!

At the end of the day, it is about what you feel when driving the car... if you feel the car is slightly faster/ more enjoyable to drive, the modifications were worth it, no matter what the numbers say...If you need to justify the money you spent by putting your car on a dyno every time, i think thats pretty lame. Modifying is about having fun installing parts and driving the car afterwards, not just bragging about how much "power" you gained and how much money you spent.

On the other hand, dynos are a great way to ensure you car is running safely and efficiently, especially with heavier mods, like FI. At that point , they are almost necessary. But for i/e, they really arent.

i'm sorry but this is ricer mentality...

unless of course you're doing something purely for aesthetics... (which... well... in most cases still ends up in the category above)

if you feel there is a difference when there isnt a difference, you're lying to yourself.

and lying to yourself is just sad, folks

A dyno is a tool for tuning the car, it was not made to tell you all what parts to buy

Thats all I was trying to get accross. Dont worry I didn't FAIL . I trust the few tuners that have told me that dyno's do put SOME (not massive amounts but some) added wear on the car. I will continue to use Dyno's when I need to tune something (like they were intended for) as well as give people advice when they ask for it (if I feel I can help another member on the board out).

FYI this thread wont stop people from talking out of their ass so IMHO this thread FAILS
