I know someone else local that installed the pan, and had to remove it and reinstall it because it leaked a little. Just used some extra RTV 2nd time around and that did the trick.
I just received my oil pan and its powder coated black. My engine builder told me to grind the powder coating off the mating surface to make sure the Hondabond has a metal surface to bond with.

Something I don't understand... Why did Canton's instructions want us to change the mark on our dipstick? I'm sure all here would agree that the oil level on the dipstick should remain unchanged.

The remarking of the dipstick was a "generic" instruction that really didn't apply to us. like we discussed in the old thread, it applies to situations where the shape of the pan has changed a lot. With ours, the dipstick reference markings remain unchanged.

Perhaps your engine builder hasn't worked much with powder coatings. The Hondabond will stick fine to powder coatings as it does to other non-metallic surfaces. If you want to remove the powder coating, there is nothing wrong with that, but definitely don't grind it off. Not only will that be a major bitch, but you could risk damaging the rail. If you want to remove it, use acetone.

Putting the pan on a belt sander to get the powder of probably would do more good in getting the flange straight.

I still cannot think of a reason why you would want the oil level any different. I am also not sure why "generic" instructions would be supplied if they are not applicable. Some people follow directions.

Or if you are using a different oil pickup head you may need to remark the dipstick.

I still don't see it. Ideally, you want it as high as you can go without making contact with the spinning crank. Unless these other pans have poor oil control under G's and allow oil to come up and hit the spinning crankshaft.
