Fast being relative....
It would be nice to see some S2000s in SSM.

Working on it... lots of reliability issues to sort out and weight mods. My car snaps axles like crazy. I'm only down to 2750lbs too. May end up a better track car

Awe man... can't you just turn down the boost or something?

Not at my weight!

You know Marc I just think at those power and grip levels, 150 to 200 lbs could be in the noise. Not on paper but when you think about how Thorns car (and driver of course) is doing compared to ssm and the fact that the miatá are (so far) not faster even with their weight advantage it makes me think the s2k will match up well.

Word.

R-comps rock. Looking back, I probably should have never wasted my time with STR. BSP seems like a nice stepping stone to SSM... and I guess STR is a nice stepping stone to BSP. It would be nice to see some S2000s in SSM.

Working on an SSM build currently. It will be a long way from being nationally competitive, but it should be pretty nice for our local region. Maybe I'll make it to a tour next year if it gets done.

Are there higher end axles to try?

I think the problem with the axles is your still s2000 based axles. No one makes axle that can withstand the r comp launches. We just broke our 2nd one on the bsp car and it wasn't even on launch. It actually snapped on a left hander when putting the gas down. That being said. We will be in bsp for 2015 with a close to fully built car. Looking at weight somewhere sub 2500 and about 250whp/180ft/lbs. We will likely build a motor for ssm and go play in ssm for 2016

Not available at the moment, and I have tried a few options. The main issues are people just don't want to build them and they will be crazy expensive. If I cut power back, I can focus on quicker spool, smaller turbo, and possibly less need for cooling (ie weight savings). The downside other is an even greater HP:Weight disadvantage. Watching Jason Tipple's all out SSM Miata build, Danny Popp's SSM C5Z build (tons of backing) and the current inventory of cars/drivers is making me rethink how far I want to take this. BSP is a whole lot more sane! I feel getting in a cheaper and competitive car to begin with is the answer to my last few years of lackluster performances while giving me more funds to attend more events/seat time...

As much fun as tinkering with the car In SSM sounds, it really seems like BSP and FP are the best r-comp classes for the car and the easiest way for an older chassis to stay competitive.

With BSP and SSM running the same tires, I am not so sure that accelerating that much faster is worth the hassle. I'm sure that the visceral experience is similar enough - and thorne's times in BSP have shown this to be the case.

The axle is breaking on the outer portion where it meets the hub, twisting off at the beginning of the grooves. From driving both SSM and BSP S2000s, there really isn't a comparison. So much is different with that amount of tq and power. The suspension setup is a different approach and results in a different animal.

Re: drive - It still sounds like you still create a lot of problems for yourself - most of it relates to the wick and trying to control it - to go not much faster. I don't like to complicate things - so I'll stick to simpler prep levels.

Sounds like the axle issue could be fixable. Getting hubs/outer joints made shouldn't be too difficult.

Unfortunately, as mentioned earlier, tried a few shops of recommendation, won't touch it. I think <500 whp will work with the current setup. If I'm going to keep up with the top of ssm, that extra power will be necessary. SSM is not for the "keep it simple" types of racers for sure!
