To make this relevant to the thread, Its a good idea to get a spare diff and axels. I have been very fortunate so far, but the time finally came for me. I have seen many S2000s break axels and diffs at National events. They are not very difficult to replace. I keep a DIY printout with my spare parts just in case. This time I happened to leave the parts at home.

I'm just going to Puddymod when my diff fails. He lives probably an hour away from me so I'm lucky.

I thought people are running aftermarket diffs in STR? Both MX-5s and s2ks.
I'm pretty sure I saw people talking about 1.5 way diffs from OS Gilken and such.

Yeah, I just wasn't sure if that modified the gears in any way. I don't know if you can touch the ring/pinion gears which is the failure point. Installing an OS Giken doesn't touch these gears. I just don't think we can strengthen the gears in any way. I could be wrong though....

You're right. You cannot strengthen the gears in any way... shame really.
My other question was regarding the AP1's gaining toe-in in the rear when under load? I think I read that somewhere in the last page or so.. Is that really the case? When I lowered my car, and didn't do a re-alignment, I gained a whole bunch of toe-OUT (AP2). I'm curious because this is the first I've heard of this. Is this an AP1 exclusive due to different suspension geometry?
So, Blytehville Pro... Dardin DiSimo won it in a 1999 MX5. 4/10ths of a second over all. Any thoughts? Wasn't STS faster than STR at Nationals last year? Those light weight cars are simply scary... ST and STS are always fast.
Darrin is a fantastic driver. I think both the Miata and s2000 have the opportunity to win in this class given the right driver. There may be a bit of course dependency, but I think a lot of it will come down to driver.
He placed very well in Dixie (top 5 I believe) as well.

ST and STS are very course dependent. Couple seasons ago I was getting beat raw time by Jason Frank in his ST Civic at home in my old STU STI all the time. Last year it didn't happen at all though. Andrew Canak would've been the fastest ST class in his STS Miata if he didn't have the cone on his first run at Nationals last year. I beat him though at home on Sunday by about 1.5 seconds or .5 on index in my STR car. It is so hard to tell when comparing classes. STR will be that way too I am sure. Some course will just favor certain cars.

Just for grins... Here are my 2 fastest runs at last weekend's Blytheville ProSolo.

BTW, I uploaded the videos in HD but I am betting that you will need to go to the sites and manually choose them. Note... for those that have not been to one, it is a lot of fun... right side video has more of what it is like to be on deck and then stage the car. Feel free to critique the runs... I'm always open to improvements.

True but he also will do a straight OEM rebuild, for like $800, all oem but you know its got good parts, you know the tolerances are correct, and you know who put it together... plus it is a lot cheaper than buying a new one and a lot more reliable than buying used.
