To make this relevant to the thread, Its a good idea to get a spare diff and axels. I have been very fortunate so far, but the time finally came for me. I have seen many S2000s break axels and diffs at National events. They are not very difficult to replace. I keep a DIY printout with my spare parts just in case. This time I happened to leave the parts at home.
I remember reading a story about an S that was shared by a team of people and they got to know that after 1,000 or so pro-solo launches the axles had to be replaced because if they did x number more launches they would actually break. How do you spell fatigue!
Haha, that's Over 6 Racing, which comprised of Jason Saini (now of road race fame), Brad Lamont and Julianne Pokorny. Jason ended up winning BS several times in that S2000. Yeah, they had their fair share of broken diffs and axles, thats for sure!

Hey Rob,

The car toeing OUT initially from stock ride height, is that a theory of yours based on studying the suspension, or did you actually measure the toe change while swinging the suspension thru it's range? I just ask becuase a while ago I saw a thread where someone put the AP1 on a rack, then with the shock/spring out they measured the toe change and plotted it out. If I remember correctly, it wasn't linear, but I do believe the suspension never toed OUT when compressed, and only toed in. If you have some numbers, care to tell us what you found?

I'll chime in with my car's weight. I just had it corner balanced 2 days ago. It came in at 2717 with half a tank of gas. The only weight "savings" are the Volk CE28s with 245 tires. The Gendron bar adds lots of weight, and the car still has the stock exhaust and battery. I'm thinking I can hopefully get it down to 2650, but I dunno how some of the other AP1s here are already near 2600... It's super depressing that Annie's CR is 2600 lbs...

Yeah, I'm a bit depressed about the weight of my car too. I was 2799 with a full tank of gas. That was with no rear bar and a T1R 70EM Limited Exhaust. Stock wheels and tires which may be lighter in the front since they are so small too. Not sure if the Motons are any lighter than stock with the hoses and external reservoirs either. You do notice the weight on the clock when you have someone in the car too so it sure would be nice to have the car weight as little as Annie's.

Which Motons do you have? I remember Saini once telling me that the aluminum Motons were about 2 lbs lighter a corner, but that could be highly optomistic...

Um Colin, since you do own an 08, technically you CAN get down to Annie's weight too...

Yeah, I know I could convert the car to CR spec but I like having a soft top since I drive it every day. I have the newer Clubsports which have the orange bodies which I think are aluminum as well.

What kind of spring rates are most of you guys running? Are you daily driving the car with said rates?

750F/650R and yes I do daily drive them.

On a side note for those of you that daily drive with Motons what are your comfort settings for your shocks? Right now it seems pretty good with compression full soft and rebound 3 clicks all around.

Actually, it appears there are a lot of different part numbers between the CR and non-CR - I'm not sure how easy it would be to legally convert a non-CR to a CR...

And Colin, you hit on EXACTLY the thing I like least about my car - the lack of ability to put the top down on command. I hope to do a hard top hoist setup in my garage before the summer (all 2.4 weeks of summer we get here in Seattle...)

Trust me, I have done the homework, no way will you be able to convert a base '08 to CR specs. Front subframe has a different part number, the brace in the back has a number of brackets integrated into the metal work, the cost would be insane to do everything and be legal. I was looking for a CR, but bought the base 08 instead, I wouldn't be happy with not having the soft top for daily topdown driving.

The parts I know of to change:

Door panels
Steering wheel
Shift boot
Radio Door
Steering rack (ap1)
front subframe
Rear trunk brace (goes where the spare tire sits) - brackets welded to the chassis
Trunk lid (has a bunch of bracing for the wing, and wiring is routed differently)
You legally could run without the front splitter and rear wing, but would need the trunk lid
Top cover lid (I think you could run with the soft top, and no one would care, but legally you would need to remove it)

The front subframe, steering rack, and rear brace alone would make the conversion very expensive and difficult

Just my .02 - and I wanted to do this myself
