S2000 STR prep resource
I'm checking this thread two times a day lately and I have yet to even compete in STR, entertaining thread for sure.
All I really know is I am going to get all the big essentials on my new-to-me AP1, and drive it as close to 10/10ths as I can and see where it falls...

Been keeping an eye on the intake developments - modified stock air boxes, modified FIPK K&N intakes, the "puffo" intake. So, I decided to use up some fiberglass and 0.025" aluminum sheet that I had laying around. I have about $60 worth of material in this intake and it uses a stock filter element and stock intake elbow.
Projects like these are why I like STR
Started with a "boot" shaped inlet -

Adapted a flange onto the back of the filter -

Made a conical cover, attached everything together and wrapped it with insulation -

The inlet currently pulls air from the opening beside the radiator and the passenger fender brace. It could easily be modified to pull from one or the other only.

It's fully enclosed except for the inlet openings. I didn't take any pics before it went together. The taper of the conical piece is similar to the filter taper and leaves about 1.5" of clearance around the filter.
Everyone had the same front hollow Gendron bar.
I think the difference in 60' can be more attributed to ap1/ap2 instead of weight. The ap2 had more torque for the uphill launch. Even when we had a good launch and treeed the CR, we would be slightly behind before the first turn.

James- did everyone have the same gendron bar? There's a hollow and a solid. Also did they all have no rear bar?

Ok, so here is what I have on my 05 AP2.
17x9 Buddy Club QF's @ 14.3 lbs a peice
Tein SRC Coilovers (FRONT: 9lb 13oz REAR: 8lbs)
Gendron 1 1/4" Hollow with Spherical Mounts
"Forged Aluminum" MX-5 Rear Bar... very light... doubt it's heavier than 2-3 lbs.
Both seats in the car are at the 25lb weight limit.
Brail 11.2 lb Battery
PLM Header
Stock Cat
Cut-Off Exhaust Mod (Should weigh around 8-9 lbs.)
K&N Intake
Chase Race Hitch Mounts (These are actually quite heavy... forgot about these. Maybe 5-8lbs remain on the vehicle with the main hitch dropped).
Tire Tread on my 255 Hankooks for the weigh-in were just a little bit more than what Thornes car had... very bald.
Stock Radio and interior. Spare and Tools were out of the car. Exactly half a tank of gas was in the car.
Bottom line... depressing. Not to mention I physically weigh 50lbs more than these skinny s.o.b.'s.
What's more frustrating is my rev-limit verses everyone elses... Every National course I've run this year either requires a shift to 3rd, or I'm just beating the rev-limit to death. I'd imagine I could have picked up at least 1/10th on each side of that Colorado Pro course... I was tearing the rev-limit up half way down that slalom.
Not trying to be a little bitch here... but my car with me in it is 130-150lbs handicapped over everyone except for Yom... (he's big like me!), I have no freakin rev-limit, and I have the power of an AP1...
FML.

The ECU I use to get 9000 RPM and 20 more HP (tuned with H/I/C and AFC NEO) is for sale from the guy I get to borrow it from. With the right mods, other than the weight, I don't think the 04-05 is that bad off. Case in point, the Yominator at the Lincoln Tour.
