Maybe. Or they drive fast despite having spar-specs and not because they had them. Plus that national surface is wierd like matt has said.

Well see.

Whoops... I thought Rob was on the SS. But, you might want to consider your options (brand and sizes) for being a single driver. I've heard you complain about temps on several occasions.

Agreed, you're thinking about this too much. I just bought new kooks and I'll be storing them over the winter (and my winter is much more wintery than yours).

I'll probably store them inside just because I have the space and I'd rather be safe than sorry...but I'd really be surprised if even leaving them outside will affect them.

Yea yea yea, you always have a rebutale argument to anything I say. haha. I agree about temps! My tires hardly get hot in non-summer weather without a co-driver.

I'm gonna order tires. Who has kooks in stock? I'm to scared to make a $600 gamble on tires I might not like (star-specs). I'd like to have some by next week so I can put a hurting on Dave Just kidding!

Here's a question for people who have done flashpro - can you get rid of the ridiculous fuel cutting at redline? I really want the car to predictably do the same thing when I hit redline every time, like most cars do. The stock AP2 is ridiculous for this...sometimes you get a nice blip blip blip, other times it shuts off fuel big time and the car gets really upset. At one time I thought I could control this by letting off the throttle when it got near redline, but aside from losing time from this, it doesn't seem to be working anymore...I'm getting fuel cut more times than not. That really hurt this past weekend when there were big offset slaloms than being right at the rev limit in 2nd was about the perfect speed for...when it stayed at redline like normal it was awesome, but if it hit that cut you were going fast enough that it would push the rear end around.

If that can be tuned out I'll probably get flashpro now as opposed to in spring like I planned.

Yes, this can be tuned out quite easily.
There is a thread in the Hondata section somewhere, where Gernby talks about a soft limiter. Basically, you pull timing ~100 RPM before the limiter to help slow the motor down, and then set the rev limit recovery at the same RPM as the limiter. This helps prevent the motor from going much higher than the limiter, and waiting to get back below 8000 before it gives you fuel again. This is what you are talking about where it shuts off fuel big time.
I have datalogs of the stock limiter over-running to almost 8500 rpm in 2nd gear. With the soft limiter, it just sits right on the limiter, and fluctuates maybe 100 rpm.

Holy crap that would be awesome. Thanks for the reply!

Call them about once per week. Their website isn't reliable. It's surprising how often one or two sets become available. A local auto-xer and I were able to order 2 sets within the last two weeks.

I'm kind of at a cross roads, my tires are almost done, they have maybe 1/32 front and 2/32 rear. I've got two local events left this season, maybe 3 If they add one more event and I really want to go the the Nashville tour.

The issue is do I buy tires, use them 3 races and let them sit all winter or do I go to the local events and just throw in the towel on the tour event.

Also if I buy tires should I buy star-specs since it's going to be cold and just plan to wear then out before it gets hot and I switch to kooks next season. Im not sure I want to have tires sit all winter. It almost feels like I would be buying tires for one race.
Josh,
The R-S3s I ran at nationals were over one year old! I was desperate for tires before nationals and found a guy that had them sitting in his barn. They actually had hay on them. As for wear, one track day and you could just barely see the flames. So, I think you're getting a bit hung up on something that does not make that much of a difference. I came in 6th and had the top time of day in STR on day 2. The car had the potential for 1st.

I have run two local events since nationals and they work great.
Agreed. I think it's awesome that the RS-3's seem to be almost "immune" to falling off with heat cycles and age. The tires Mark and I drove on at Nats this year were tires he had ran on all year, through dirt and daily driving, all kinds of crap. He was going to drive them to Nats actually, but was afraid to risk a puncture.

They seem to be the opposite of Ho'ho's with respect to temps, heat cycles, and wear, which are incredibly sensitive to "wear", "misuse" or "improper storage."
