Does the boot look ok on the balljoint? Theoretically if you had a clearance issue where something was hitting it or rubbing it and tearing the boot, that could happen. If the boot is compromised the ball joint will grind itself away in the manner you're describing very quickly.

So I have now had a second set of SPC Ball Joints go bad on me. Had the stock ones put in and will now be buying a set of J's Racing S1s. Really furious about this, but at least TireRack warrantied the first set and hopefully will cover this now broken second set as well.
Anyone have any ideas for why my car would possibly be eating upper ball joints so fast? I keep assuming it is a part failure because I can not think of anything else.

I'm kind of at a cross roads, my tires are almost done, they have maybe 1/32 front and 2/32 rear. I've got two local events left this season, maybe 3 If they add one more event and I really want to go the the Nashville tour.
The issue is do I buy tires, use them 3 races and let them sit all winter or do I go to the local events and just throw in the towel on the tour event.
Also if I buy tires should I buy star-specs since it's going to be cold and just plan to wear then out before it gets hot and I switch to kooks next season. Im not sure I want to have tires sit all winter. It almost feels like I would be buying tires for one race.

The R-S3s I ran at nationals were over one year old!
I was desperate for tires before nationals and found a guy that had them sitting in his barn. They actually had hay on them. As for wear, one track day and you could just barely see the flames. So, I think you're getting a bit hung up on something that does not make that much of a difference. I came in 6th and had the top time of day in STR on day 2. The car had the potential for 1st.I have run two local events since nationals and they work great.
So basicly letting them sit over the winter wouldn't harm them in anyway?
Anywhere have kooks in stock right now?
Yea Dave I'd like to try the star specs but I don't want to ever loose and feel like well "what if" they were kooks. Im interested in the propertys of the star-specs but its proven they arnt as fast. I about died several times on the way to class today in the rain. I was fighting the car all the way down the interstate doing a max of 60mph. It was horrible. If it really makes no difference if they sit all winter or are fresh out of the mold I'm going to order some today.
