Mmm beer.

The Type-R is comparable to the Golf R32 or the GTI 337.
Right. And they are both heavier and slower too. High-five VW. (although I do like the looks of the 337).

As for "0-60"s Steve C; With that statement, you have just proved that you either do not own an M-Coupe or that your idea of racing is reading 'Car and Driver' and 'Road and Track', or both. If you want to mag race, then read the Car and Driver article where the STOCK 2002m GTI 1.8T did a 6.5 sec 0-60 (and they complained about not being able to launch)...
Right. Now I am a liar and a magazine racer too. Name calling is childish no?

Also, do you mean, "Partake of a beer"?
Nope. Beer. Multiple. Mmm Guiness.

Anywho. Here are some vids of the ITR and M coupe..

ITR at Spokane: (Ran with a chipped GTI on Ecsta V700's, he shredded them).

M coupe out at second creek: (one good lap on brand new and noisy Falken Azeni's and then one lap trying to get around an E30 M3).

Just for kicks, flying a Kolb Firestar (aka death trap)

I am the guy in the Passat that raced the S2k. My car weighs 3050lbs(I am not the new B5.5, I am a 01 or B5 which mean I weigh less). I had chip and exhaust as mods. The race was from 60~70mph-120mph upon which I lost by precisely one car each time. At the beginning of the race I would put about .5~1car on the S2k. Yes, he started in Vtec because he would get to the right rpm, then I would match him and we would go 3 honks. I will find the link to the video and post it again. I really came back on me good when I hit 4th gear, as you can tell, I heatsoaked VERY fast and he came wailing up on me. Didn't matter, he was going to catch me anyways, colder weather, my car would fare much better. If I were on race gas, I would win, but I wasn't......so that is another can of worms. I lost fare and square, here is the link: http://www.auburn.edu/~mcgowmd/Passat_S2000.avi

What the feezy is going on here fellas? Who the fack cares about VW? Jesus H. Christ, I mean Type R, arguably the greatest all round FWD car ever produced, and in limited numbers, chassis, motor, suspension, all, and you guys are comparing it with a GTI? No doubt GTIs are quick, but c'mon they aren't even on the same level. The panache that comes with owning a historical and classic piece of Japanese machinery oudoes the GTI in every parameter.

Regarding the quickness, for what the thread was started for, simple mods on the ITR, whew, they can be pretty quick. I know a guy, all he has is a CAI and a final drive, and he can beat S2ks on the drag and on the street. These ITRs are no slouch, but then again they are kin, like the NSX, so quit bashing the HONDA!! I wanted the ITR over the S actually, BUT, they were all sold out, no more, so went for the convertable. I still wish sometimes I got the ITR, much more practical...
