Supposed to check it cold iirc.
EDIT: Don't CHECK the oil when the engine's running. You want an idea of what the level will be with the engine running.
Guys, I had the dealership take off the oil pan to inspect the cylinders from below. Cylinder's #1, #2, #3, were perfectly fine but #4 had TINY metal shavings protruding. I will follow this reply up with pics as soon as I get them uploaded. Also the oil pan had small maybe 4-5 pieces of tiny metal shavings the size of a pinky nail. Not sure what this constitutes but it looks like I'm going to have to have the head replaced along with the block. From my description if anyone can give me some input on what could be wrong it'd be much appreciated.

Lastly, they are charging me 7-1000$ on the labor it takes to simply diagnose my car. As far as I'm concerned the crank is sealed and won't budge an inch, there is metal shavings protruding from cylinder #4, and the dealership is still telling me I 'over-revved' the motor. I told them that it would still crank and at least I'd hear some knocking or something but the damn car just died no noise, no check oil, engine, or any warning signals prior to the seizure..
---
My personal tech also wanted to know a little info about our check oil lights. A day after purchase I remember checking the oil light and it said 60%. Do our oil lights indicate our oil levels or oil integrity?
---
Thanks for the help everyone

Next time you may want to have an independant shop check the car before you purchase used. We do this at my shop for 20$ you would be amazed what we find from so called reputable dealers.
ALWAYS CHECK THE CAR BEFORE BUYING!!!!!
At least here in Greece, most dealers often offer wrecked cars(2 or more put together) and unless you perform a (body and engine) check on the car,you can never be sure what of what you put your money into.
Not to mention that putting non-synthetic oil, simply consists a crime against our car.

This is plain robbery, for something they are responsible for AND ARE OBLIGED to check.
Get a lawyer.

Fingernail-sized metal shavings are not tiny.
The oil light is a combination of a timer and an algorithm based on how you drive the car. It doesn't really know the quantity OR quality of your oil. It guesses the quality.
I didn't let anyone open it. All they did was take the oil pan off. I did contact a lawyer, the reason the car is still there is b/c I still owe them a portion of my downpayment. As long as the car is there it is not 'my' car and without my downpayment, it is still 'their' car. Lot of legal proceedings in this.
They are going to charge me 700-1000$ to go further then the oil pan at which I said No. They will not do it for free so the car is still there as it sits.

the maint required light is a reminder to change oil(not very relevant for engine failure), i've run my car down to 2 qts in the engine, never lost pressure.
this is the low oil pressure warning light...
=bad, very bad.
