I questioned Pinky a lot of stuff about radios and his mod but ended up not buying anything from him. Not sure whether that pissed him off. But I can say his service is great and he always tries to accomodate you.

PS I think $100 is a GREAT price for the group buy. But if you can do it yourself, all that much better though I belong to the group who wishes only to get end products and spend more time driving.

Hi Pinky

So, what do we get for $100? Everything ready to go - we can just plug in our new superior head units and rock? BTW, I have the MTX 325 watt amp and Polk Audio separates aleady installed. In the way of more free advice, I need some sound coming from behind me, but would like to keep as much of my wee trunk as possible. What do you think?

Pinky,

I have the Sony CDX-600 head unit with the fold-down face and see-through display panel. Will this be a problem?

Thanks in advance!

I had pinky's mode done with a new Pioneer radio which I also bought from Pinky at a low price. The unit works great, I had a problem in my install and Pinky was there to help. I paid $130 for the mode an I got a new head unit at a discount. I am happy, buy Pinkie's mod and you will be happy too.

Well looking at everything....if we did get 20 people to go in on this thing. I would need a couple stipulations. Payment only be paydirect.yahoo.com or cashiers check. Plus shipping.(usually 8-12 bucks depending on distance and box size I use) What you would get is just what everybody else gets. My high standards customer service and a great product ready to plug into the car and be programmed up.(after you supply me with your radio's harness)

Sound from behind you?! Do you mean subs or rear fill.(rear fill is midrange music) If its subs. a big 10"-small box 12" could fit flush into the floor and still give access to the tool tray(or you could relocate the tool tray to the spare tire with some custom work giving a bigger well for a sub. I am still waiting for Sondra to give the word on the custom sub enclosure. SONDRA YOU OUT THERE???!!!

Well I would have to ask....---->AusS2000<---- http://s2000.byteserve.com.au/audioupgrade.../head_unit.html
I forget how to link just a word to that so you get the whole thing. He can better answer the question since that is the one he bought from me!

And to all the rest of you that have spoke up in support of me and I thank you. And to clear things up I work for NASDAQ I do this as a side job through my old place of work and consequently have to make a profit for the business and a little for my self. So actually what little I do make a portion goes to the business. Hay its the only way I can source the parts I need and prices and radio's for everybody.

Thanks again all and I must commend everybody for not turning this thread into horror and getting it locked. Bieg accomplished that with me more than once....glad he hasn't shown his face around here im much calmer since.

Oh and nwk00: I have dozens of people making inquaries and possible purchases. As long as I dont go ordering a radio for you then you walk away it dosent hurt me any. Little sad but none the less unhurt. All I can say is I tried but I am not holding a gun to your head(as one person put it) you have the right to do what ever you like.

I wouldn't expect any more or less than you provide any other purchaser. As for the music from the rear, I was thinking mid range if it can be done, or small subwoofer, if we can't locate 2 rear speakers. What do you think?

You rang!

There's little to no problem with the Sony ABP (Active Black Panel) heads. I have the CDX-M750. Pinky's mod works fine.

The only issues are that the IR receiver on the black panel is on the left, and the other receiver on the gold open face is on the right. So the only place I could find to mount the transmitter that successfully talked to both receivers was on the left of the head, sticking out about 10mm and bent in towards the head. No problem and works every time.

The other issue is that the Sony uses a different button for next track and next preset station. As the "CD:Next Track" button is also the "Radio:Seek Up" button I programmed the channel button to operate this button.

I also have a small Sony amp under the passenger (left) seat, but today it is misbehaving. It was a scorcher here today (40C) and this area is not well ventilated. Also, I was out west so it was particularly hot and muggy. the amp seems to overload almost instantly at the moment. I'll have a look at it later. But that's another story.

Just so you know, I ordered the head and mod from Pinky and had them shipped around the world. A very happy customer.

Looks to me like there are a couple things I need to address.

1. Rear fill in this car is not needed and virtually impossible! Put your money into a better set of separates and a amp!
2. If your amp is having problems you must always provide proper amounts of clearance/ventalation or forced cooling(fan).
3. Be sure that your not running the amp into loads that its not ment to take such as running 2 4ohm subs(parallel) mono off a 4ohm mono stable amp. This will be like running your S2000 up hill 90mph, 150 shot Nitrous, 25 pounds of boost all day every day.....its just not gonna handle it very well for very long. Overheating and eventually destroying its self.(probably a bad analogy but best I can come up with right now)

Ok, so rears are a virtual impossibility. My s2000 is currently on the boat and scheduled for a March delivery. I do not want, or need, or think that it can be done, a competition quality sound system in the car. However, I do enjoy good tunes. So, beyond replacing the head unit (and getting Pinky's mod), unpgrading the speakers, I would like to have some rear fill, but I do not want to give up the space. As a result, I am thinking along the lines of bazooka's smallest amped sub. Will this fit on the shelf in the trunk? I don't want to lose any more trunk space than neccessary. Do I need to pull the spare? Anyone tried this? Have other thoughts? Many thanks.,

I guess this needs to be addressed a little more. Just for posterity sake I will define a couple points to my best ability in my own mind.

Rear fill: Giving a little background music, mostly mid range music muted highs typical Hz range is 120-1,000 for the louder area. 1,000-20,000 is more muted and toned down to not overpower or distract from the sound staging.

Bottom end: Most often produced by a sub woofer or bass tube. Typically place behind the driver because of more space provided. Also Bass is a non directional sound. The higher the pitch the more directional it is. Bass should seem to come from everywhere when done properly.

As for producing bottom end: Bazooka tubes are one of the worst forms of reproducing that. Collins makes tubs/boxes that are self contained and much better designed. Or a custom box can be made to fit over the tool tray and be lifted out to gain access to that tray. Or the tools can be relocated and a deeper box can be made.

If you wanted rice in the stereo sence you could always pick up some truck rider speaker boxes and drop them in the convertable top tray for rear fill. Just when you put the top down you gotta take them out.
