I would think you'd have to replace the ECU to roll back the mileage, but I could be wrong.
You are The odometer is completely independant of the ECU, the mileage is stored in the instrument cluster. I swap between ECUs all the time and the mileage never jumps around.

Here is a simple answer to the tire concern, it is not recommended to use different brand tires on our cars. SO2's are expensive!!! if he went to cheaper pirelli's in back he should have swithched the front to pirelli as well, which is probably what happened. Dude you have be going nut's over this!!! In the end it still only a car after all. How much does he want for this car anyway? After you buy it take some pics for us. We want to see the fruits of our labor.
I'm getting the car with oem hardtop for 17800. and no, i specifically asked him if he has ever replaced teh fronts, he said, "no".

and I meant tan interior if I dont buy this one, i would have to settle for an 03 or 04.

this my00 has red/black. The main reason i'm buying this car is because it comes with a hardtop and the red/black interior.

are you sure they will live up to this?

Also, are you guys 100% positive that my00 only comes with the Bridgeston Potenza S-02s?

Can I come up with an agreement contract stating that he has never tampered with the odometer and make him sign that?

Here is the vin if someone can hook it up with a report

VIN: JHMAP1140YT000466
When I run a carfax at work, they print out a certificate that that company guarantees the car against it ever being in an accident, odo rollback, clean title, etc etc.

I have never heard anyone making a claim, but go to carfax website and look into it.

Good luck

I don't know about the ECU but it's obviously stored somewhere else. I've got an AEM EMS and I didn't get a "do over" on the odometer.
I was hoping someone with an AEM EMS or other ECU would see my question and chime in.

When you change the cluster can you move the old chip to the new cluster, or do you have to store the mileage in the new cluster some other way?

In the past whenever an odometer was replaced in a vehicle they would put a sticker on the car in the door jam or something indicating the odometer had been changed, indicating what the supposed mileage was at the time.

You could always artificially advance the odometer to match what it is supposed to read. In the old days you could hook a drill up to the speedometer cable and roll the mileage backward or forward.

I dont imagine there is a cable running to our cluster. There has to be a way to "program" the odometer however, because there's that story somewhere on s2ki where a yellow box was improperly installed and someone's odometer clicked off 15,000 miles or something on the way home from the shop. Supposedly they were able to roll the odometer back somehow using a super secret technique, but don't ask me what that was!

Those miles are really not that low.

I have seen many 10+ year old cars with less than 5,000 miles on them.

I have been trying to buy a 02 just like mine, here in the Zoo with less than 3,000 miles. The women who owns the car only drives it about 700 miles a year. This S Has only been to redline a few times, while I was driving her.

The women who owns this S has no clue what her car can do, she shifts below 5,000 rpm. I have tried to buy it every year for the last two years. Someday it will be mine, when the price is right, She has more $$$ than Brains.

Have the car inspected by a Good Garage. If all checks out ok, buy it and have Fun.
