After owning an 08 and now an 00 I can say that the "improvements" were often made at the expense of the original sporting spirit of the S2000. I chose AP1 because it's more of a thrill to drive... and that's why I own a sports car.

I did miss the howl of the 9,000 RPM redline, but that was all the AP1 had for me. The trade off was the deeper growl and torque of the F22. Yes, the torque is definitely noticeable if you drive the car on normal streets.

If I had to do it all over again, the CR would be my choice.

Have to agree on the torque, I've driven my friend's 07 and it was a very noticeable difference.

What makes the S2k special? The 9K rainbow.

I say buy the lowest mileage, latest build 2003 you can find.

Then again... I have '03 #4100, so I'm a little biased

Honestly, the AP2 maybe a little softer but barely noticeable. Anyone who drives and thinks that the CDV ruins the car is crazy. Everyone says that the AP1 is more raw yet the AP2 is usual faster on the track. Less prose to snap oversteer and generates more power on a dyno.
There is one reason and one reason only why I wanted an AP2...... It looks much nicer than an AP1. The headlights are considerably nicer. The bumper designs are more modern. The interior is also a little bit more modern. Of course these are all just my opinions

^snap oversteer is driver induced...i dont buy that "AP2's are less prone to snap over steer" comment...it completely depends on the driver and his compentency behind the wheel

Of the AP2s I think '05 is a great year (before they put in the less attractive seats). I like AP1 better and my '01 suits me just fine. I don't love the oil consumption though but it isn't horrible. '03 gets you the better oil banjo bolts. I'm at 115k with the old banjo bolts no issues.

Snap oversteer is the most overblown thing ever told. Learn how to drive, get some good tyres and you won't get snap oversteer. The only time my car has ever oversteered is when I induced it on purpose.

Completely agree, only time I ever experienced this was on an auto-x course on all seasons my first time out.

Point was that the AP2 came with wider rims and tires making the car less nervous.
