Performance and handling are a BIG plus for me but I bought the car because it's a convertible. I would not have considered it if it were only a coupe.
I'd have strongly considered the Miata, as all out performance wasn't an issue for me (not that I'm unhappy that the S2000 will out perform a Miata! ) but I simply don't fit in Miata's. The S2000 just works better for me.

When I bought my S2k, I was looking for a roadster with similar performance to the e36 m3 it would replace. Miata & MR2 spyder were slower than the m3. Z4 was too ugly. That left me considering s2k and porsche boxter. Everything else had too many doors, too many seats, too slow, or too much money. The decision to get the s2k was an easy one. Great looks, less common, respectable performance, and cheaper than the porsche.
Bottom line, if the s2k were a coupe, i'd be driving a boxter.

I bought the car because it was a convertible. I have always owned hardtops because they are always better handling due to stiffer chassis. I wanted a convertible this time. I waited 16 months for an Elise because it is the only convertible I know of that doesn't suffer from this flexing chassis issue.
There are several reasons I didn't purchase the Elise that I won;t go into now.
The S2000 and Boxster were always my 2nd and 3rd choices to Lotus.
