You fellas are right again, I was wrongly assuming that if EITHER door were opened that the locks would stay unlocked, but you have to open both doors to make them stay...who knew?

Ah, now this is where your yankee models differ from the Aussies. In the Oz version because we get all or non locking (i.e. can't just unlock/lock one door) then once you open one door (any door) the system will not try to relock.

To me this is anothe benefit of living in a litigation free (well relatively) country

Either door should reset it. It does on mine... That would be stupid if you had to open both doors! Should you get into the car, lean over and open then close the passenger door, and then drive away?

I only have to open either door to deactivate the "autolock" feature. Its not really a pain if you consider the alternative..(.stray radio signal unlocks your door, or worse, your key in your pocket activates the unlock button while car is in driveway. Passerby sees door unlocked and takes stuff from your car.)
I'd rather be locked out than have an unknown person enter the car b/c it accidentally unlocked and stayed that way.
