As I posted previously, if it really is meant to be for the track, it needs a real bar or cage, and 5-6pt harnesses with appropriate seats, extinguisher, etc. Otherwise it is not a track-ready car, just another street car needing mods. The hardtop is not going to be sufficiently strong to help you in a rollover, even though it might pass some inspections. So even with the hardtop you need a real bar in this car.

If it were really a track-oriented and ready car, I would buy it and drive it on the track. If it'll take a chunk of $$ to get it to VIR and make it safe, need to rip up the interior and put in a bar, etc, then not worth the $.

We'll see.
I think it's meant more for as an occasional track car at the HPDE rather than a full track-car which would not make it streetable. If it was a true race-car that's track-ready from the factory, it certainly wouldn't make sense to build 200 or 2000 (maybe 50 would make more sense).

Like most any car (special edition or not), not everyone will take theirs to the track. I probably will (if I can get my hands on one for a reasonable price) like I have all my other cars.

What will be deleted on the stripped models?

How will they achieve the weight reduction?

How will the chassis be stiffened up?

Will it be the OEM hardtop or a new version?

I hope a full spec sheet is released tomorrow along with the photos.

Will the reduced weight be enough to make up for a lack of HP? I don't see 100-150lbs making a huge difference on this car.

Also if they are going for more down force the benefits of weight reduction will be lost at higher speeds anyway.

This model seems to be an attempt at giving the tuner community a better building base. I'd also like to know the % of the people interested in this car who would actually track the car vs. making it a show piece.
Weight makes a big difference, well it can, but it's the items "under the covers" like the stronger frame that will be most important IMO.

I track my current S2K, bet your ass I'd track a CR It would be on track or autocrossed in < 1,000 miles at that.. break-in, then track

The softtop with the frame/motor is pretty heavy as is.

The oem HT weighs 44 lbs. If you strip the oem HT of its interior padding and replace the rear glass window with Lexan, you can reduce it to high-20's lbs. A strippied oem HT without window already weighs about ~25lbs.

LOL..if BC is correct then the CR is nothing to write home about, really.

No appreciable power increase = snooooooze

There are plenty of S2000's on this board that will outperform BC's said CR for a lot less money than what Honda and the dealer rip-off artists are gonna charge for it.

Lets see....CR will probably be 37-9k plus the dealer markups.....you are looking at probably 45k. Laughable.
That's pretty funny considering the CR's chassis MIGHT be such an improvement over the base S2000 that even with sway bars, full suspension, etc, it won't outhandle a CR.

My GS-R with a full suspension setup (as fast as ITS race cars, and car setup for ITS legal specs) was slower than a stock ITR. Yes the ITR has power, but for a track car, power is far from everything.
