DBW brings with it many advantages. I'm guessing DBW will soon be applied to braking, steering, various driving settings (sport, commute, rain/snow, etc. some of which is already available). It lends itself to tuning which is great. The very nature of it's interactive remote access "could" also lend it to being invaded externally by, insurance companies, police, etc.

Best start wrapping the control units in tinfoil

Actually, there already is an initiative by one auto insurer. They offer something like 15% reduction (not exactly sure of that number) on your annual premium if you will install "a box". What this box does is itemize all detailed information regarding your driving habits such as:
- "rabbit" starts,
- hard braking,
- exceeding the speed limit even if sporadic and marginal as in passing a car,
- distance travelled (specifically to and from work because your premium is based on this figure and if you exceed that distance.....oh oh! And, don't even think about going out for lunch because it will cost you more than just lunch and gas with all those klms you are racking up!)
You could say that just the first three items I listed rank you as a "high risk" driver.
Yes....I can see how this will save us BIG $$$$$ on our insurance.

You don't have to have that box in your car and btw those companies don't make you keep the box.

If you wanted to be really clever you could drive perfectly for the 30 days.

The GPS in my car is also reporting all the information back to the the mother ship. My cell phone listening in on all my calls and the camera on my computer recording all my private family moments for the world to see.

Run, don't want to the hole in the ground you want to call home.

They can take their box and stick it right up their pudgy asses. Then let the box record all of their movements. So for a 15% reduction, id be saving all of $100 for a significant reduction in driving pleasure. i don't have a cell phone either- try and track me down.

But money talks, so what would it take for me to have one of these boxes…how about a 80% reduction in insurance premiums? riiiight.

for now, me and my throttle cabled AP1 will remain in hibernation till the spring.

^^ And all this has nothing to do with the OP's topic. Great conversation for a separate thread please. /Moderator_Comment

I would not let DBW throttle influence my decision. Just go with the better deal.

I do enjoy my cable throttle, only downside is that tuning costs a fortune.

yeah, i agree

i just wanted to hear some opinions

i think the biggest factor for me when purchasing my AP2

is the condition, so typically I am going to look for a new AP2, which leads to DBW most likely

thanks for the info everyone!!!!

I have an '06, you can't tell that it's DBW.

Even if you don't plan on doing a very aggressive tune -- turbo etc -- having the '06+ and putting the FlashPro on is worth it just to smooth out the VTEC curve. I dropped mine to ~5100 RPMs and you can see there's a roughly ~20HP difference between mine and the old engagement point. Plus, there's no big hit anymore when the VTEC kicks in.
