Those warranties are for sissies - I would never buy a car I thought needed it. It is a sucker bet, and the The House wins in the end. They know the actuarial tables, and make a fortune selling these things.

My engineering buddies at the SAE laugh at these, since they know that if the car makes it through 3Y/36K, it is almost always good to go for the 7Y/70K - it has to be, or they would not offer these things.

Even badly made cars make money on these - what does that tell ya? I am told they are mostly sold to women, old people, scaredy cats, and people without adequate cash flow to cover repairs (they can make the monthly payment over 72 months when the EW is factored in),

As 3ngin33r1 said, negotiate the price. There are a number of people on the board who are glad they took an extended warranty while others say it's a waste of time. You'll always get this debate. Do whatever brings you peace of mind.

Whether your warranty is a tax write-off or not (as mine is) makes a difference for some people also.

Last I looked I wasn't wearing a skirt

I really don't think you are a sissy - it may make sense in your case.

I drove so few miles, that I will be dead before I hit 70k.

But you are still paying for insurance, and on a depreciating asset that does not build cash value - as I said, the House wins. There is no denying that.

I bought my S2000 used. I considered buying an extended warranty as the expiration of my 3/36 approached. However, I'm with Road Rage on this one: if I thought the car was a piece of crap that needed insurance against expensive problems, I'd sell the sob. I know it's a highly-stressed sports car, so I expect the cost of ownership to be more than a family sedan. (I disagree with the "It's a Honda" crowd on this one. And I've already been introduced to the cost of keeping S02's on this puppy.) But if I thought I needed an insurance policy, I'd sell the sob and find something else to drive.

MY '00 with 49k miles. Bought the $0ded/7yr/100k miles Honda ext wty six months after purchase via another dlr for $1055. As I mentioned elsewhere to dave(dlq04), it's been well worth it for me. I just dropped off my car for TSB 0054 for second time...and I think it should help get this re-done w/o cost.

I'm usually very conservative about paying $$ for "insurance" but felt it was a good peace-of-mind investment in this case
