I think the point woodburn and others are trying to make is that if one car continues to pull on another car from a roll through each gear, the cars are not even. Period. It's not the case where one car is pulling on the other, only for a short period of time, but one is consistently pulling on the other, through each gear. There's no replacement for displacement.
And the point that *I'm* trying to make is that in the end, the cars are so similar in terms of 0-60 time and 1/4-mile time and speed, that any real underlying performance difference is smaller than repeatability error.

Quick search yielded two Car and Driver tests within a year of each other, of an '03 and an '04 S2000:
http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...mparison-tests
http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...mparison-tests

0-60
2003: 5.4
2004: 5.5

1/4-mile ET
2003: 14.1
2004: 14.0

1/4-mile trap speed:
2003: 99mph
2004: 100mph

Does the AP2 make more power? Yes.
Is it significantly quicker? No.

You will find more variability in different tests of the same exact car.
Zdan I already told the olny reason the ap1 and ap2 have the same 0-60 is becuase the ap2 has to shift into 3rd gear right before 60 mph. So if you think about it the ap2 still pulled the same 0-60 time as the ap1 had it shifted one more time.

People IM not being biased, I HAVE OWNED BOTH....I drove the f20c for an entire year before making the change.

It is true that America often gets the smoother and larger versions of the cars in Europe, not the better handling ones (recent Passat, Accord after 2003).

But people in America often forget that one of the main reasons why European cars have so many turbo and high-rpm engines is the ridiculous taxes that many European countries charge for engines with displacements above 2 liters. In 2008, base 350Z (3.5) cost twice more than the S2000 (2.0), whereas they cost about the same in the US. And don't forget that gas is almost twice as expensive in some European countries.

Cost is probably the main reason why European AP2 kept the F20C while the US and Japan (slightly later) switched to F22, not because F20C is better than F22.

In the end we should stop fighting this stupid fight. If I have to sold my ap1 s2000 and then try to find another one, I will pick the best that I could find for the money/conditions. It doesn't matter if it is ap1 or ap2

Stock v. stock, you have to take the BAD (lower redline, having to shift sooner) with the GOOD (lower (numerically higher) gearing, +10% displacement).

The AP1 is one tenth quicker to 60 in these tests. And the AP2 is one tenth quicker in the 1/4 mile.

I'll agree with you that 5.5 vs. 5.4 0-60 is "the same" if you'll agree with me that 14.1@99 vs. 14.0@100 in the 1/4 is "the same".

I'm not biased, either. But it's just a fact that in terms of outright acceleration performance (and other performance capabilities as well), the two are practically identical. AP2 *is* better in terms of general acceleration performance while not revving the wee out of it.

I think we need 03 vs 04 Nurburgring lap times to settle this once and for all...

Only kidding. I've driven AP1, AP2v1, and AP2v2. They all seem distinct, and all have advantages and disadvantages. I own AP2 because it was the newest least mileage car i could find as my fun driver, 05 with 24k miles. If i could do it again I probably would have went with a less expensive AP1 that I would have been more comfortable gutting and making a track rat, or a 06-07 for the less expensive tunability (mmm... tuna). I did feel that some of the interior materials might have dropped in quality starting with 06 though, see seats and dash bubbling. 04-05 seats and styling FTW. Oh, and i definately would have held out for NFR.

Its funny you say this lol. There are some days I wish I bought a much cheaper ap1, with the extra money I would have saved, have it modified to the tits. I may come off as an ap1 hater but Im not actually

I just messing around here, at the end of the day AP1 or AP2 is all good. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder .

So the argument is done then. The AP2 is faster. It is 1 MPH faster in the 1/4 based on your example, (and from most real world examples I see) which equates to having about 10 more HP, which on average dyno plots show this to be true. 10 WHP is the difference. There is no argument. You can't say it is revving less (thus a disadvantage) because it is making more torque through the rev range. The Viper only revs to 5,000 RPM, is that a disadvantage too?

If you're argument is that they are practically identical, then your entire basis is entirely subjective based upon what YOU consider to be "the same" and thus invalid because you cannot argue opinions and try to state them as facts.

I can only state the facts, and the Ap2 makes more power and thus is faster.

No one was saying, (at least I wasn't) that the AP2 is a lot faster than the AP1 in a straight line, but rather IT IS faster by a small margin. I am being literal but that was the point the entire time. Completely objective, no opinions necessary.

I don't look at 0 - 60 times because it's an arbitrary point in time in the acceleration curve and tells me more about the cars gearing/traction as it does about its acceleration.
