you could tap dance on a real carbon fiber hood and not have to worry about a thing. real carbon fiber doesn't dent, it shatters. but then again most cf hoods are just fiberglass cores with a layer of carbon fiber weave on top covered with resin. not very strong, but then again, unless you have people walking on the hood of your car, i wouldn't sweat it.

i figured there would be negligible weight loss from switching to a cf hood.

probably not as significant as switching to a bigger/better radiator.
I was just up at TPI (one of the largest composite shops in the country) for a boat project we are having built there and saw the new Carbon Hummer hoods being built. I guess when the marines jump off the top (where the big gun is) onto the hood, they were denting the metal hood and damaging the engine. The new CF hoods allow several marines to jump up and down on the hood without damage.

it depends on which hood. Mugen, J's, Feel's, Amuse all weigh less then the stock hood.

true, but if someone can actually afford the Amuse hood. You can save close to 15lbs. Which is what some people consider significant savings on their exhaust upgrades.

Nah, it's closer to 22lbs with everything (nozzles and heatshield). But stock hoods on Mustangs and Camaros can get up in the 40lb range for comparison. That's why it seems like nothing.

Amuse claims racing hood (pin type) is a third of stock. If I remember right their website claims about 8.4 kilos for the stock and 2.3 kilos for the racing hood. The street hood (using stock hinges) is 3.7kg. (roughly 2.2lb/kg)

You don't save much. But, the vented ones can help improve heat dissipation.
