Agreed. And you didn't mention the year.

Forget about it. It's better to wait for the "right" one than to settle for a car you may one day regret buying.

The last thing I would want is to buy a car that someone else messed up.

The car is a 2000. I was thinking of lowballing him as I know the car is not worth 10.5K

Would $7k even be worth the hassle or like you guys said wait for a clean one to come around? Originally I was looking at a NB Miata in the 5-6K range, but if I can spend a few more thousand to get the S2K, I'll go for one. But S2Ks for 10,500 are all in the 100+K mileage

I would't buy it. Not after a front end collision. Not unless you know exactly how it was damaged. LIke looking at the repair order.

For example, although I'll never sell my car, it's got a salvage title as well. So it's worth way less. But mine has a salvage because the whole thing was repainted, a new front bumper and new top when I slid thought some bushes. No bodywork or chassis damage at all. So it would be a steal.

So that is what I was looking for as far as a salvaged title S2000 and he is in a rush to sell. With that criteria, I may have the opportunity to get a "lucky" deal and lowball him with a $7-$8000 offer or so. If he would agree to drop into that range, then I would take the car to a mechanic to do a prepurchase inspection prior to actually buying the car. This owner seems to buy just salvaged title cars (He had an EVO and a IS300 that were salvaged due to an accident and one was theft).

I tend to get "bored" of my cars after a year or so but if it has a salvaged title, it'll most likely make me keep the car since I know I won't get much money from it.

Bring it too a reputable body shop as well. They'll be able to tell you what kind of accident damage it had much better than a mechanic.

Looks like this guy is desperate because he wants this EVO that just went up. I told him what is the best he can do for price (his asking is $10.5) and he said he could go as low as $10K. I laughed to myself and told him I'll spend my money else where. I told him if we can get in the same general price range (Mine would be $8K for a 45,000 mile salvage title car) then I would set up an appointment to get the frame and any damages looked at. $8,000 is probably a really low ball for a 45,000 salvaged title car would you say?

I think it's pretty hard to say until you see why it was salvaged and how well it was repaired.

It looks like its in perfect shape, but I wouldn't pay $19,000 for it. A couple days ago there was a thread that had an 00 with less than 10k miles on it for $19k. http://bringatrailer.com/2012/01/23/...honda-s2000-2/

I think around $17k would be a reasonable offer for the one your looking at.
