-Official- Is this car worth it thread
Well, that's what I thought until I went to check a 2005 with 39,000 miles. It was pretty thrashed...
The owner claimed he tracked his sti but never tracked his s2000? He may have been telling the truth but I was very doubtful from the looks of his car.
EDIT:
I just received an email from a seller. They are going by the "RETAIL" book value. I do not understand this...
They are also convinced that I want the car to resell it?? WTF?
Anyway, this is annoying...

Ok. I am going going to check out a 2004 NFR S2000 on Friday. It has 21,000 miles and we negotiated to $16,000. The only bad thing that he mentioned (conveniently after we settled on a price), he told me that there were two tiny dents under the gas tank lid (no biggie) and then he told me there were four small scratches on the rear bumper through the paint to the black plastic (BIGGIE!). Other than that he claims that the car is in showroom condition.
Would this be a deal breaker for you? KBB value is $15,900 in excellent condition.

Tell him you'll give him $16k minus $500 to fix the bumper and $200 for PDR (assuming those dents can be fixed that way). Then you're paying $100 over KBB for a car in excellent condition.
This is assuming the rest of the car is in excellent condition. He's probably hiding something else.
thanks for the input guys. i'm hoping he takes pics of the scratches tomorrow morning. if he does, i'll be happy to post them up. i already have a plan when my friend and i see him. i'm gonna haggle the cost of fixing the bumper. the dents i am not worried as much about but we'll see.
i'm also keeping in mind that a lot of cars that i've seen posted on autotrader are for some reason a good amount above KBB or edmunds. so i'm kind of seeing this as a good opportunity to buy, as well as keeping into consideration that it's close to summer peak season.

Well new site member here. Sold my Miata last year and have been quietly learning on this site and watching for an S2000. Going to look at one tomorrow:
2005
50,000 miles
Yellow
Basically showroom condition ( I know the small dealer and have dealt with him for many years on other cars. Driving a 4Runner and Camry from there now. This is one the owner has been driving himself for about a year at his home in southern Utah in sunny weather.)
$14,100.00. Based on our discussions last fall (he decided to hang onto it over the winter) I suspect 13, 500 is about as low as he'd go.
Haven't seen it so don't know the condition of the tires.
My original hope was to find one in the 12,000 to 13,000 area but this is a little newer and great condition than you could otherwise hope for.
Your thoughts?

To be honest I have a small scratch with some minor paint spidering on my rear bumper (bumped into my fence backing out
). Right now everyone reading this would picture the worst, when in reality I would challenge someone to find it. On something like this as a seller I would hold off on advertising and point it out when the buyer is looking at the car, the fact that they would have never seen it had I not pointed it out is only going to help me as the seller. Am I a "shady seller", heck no!! Am I a smart seller, yeah.
