^ going by book 12-14 is your range. INS paid me just under 20, for a TL on an '05 low mileage lots of options, because book was just under 20 ATM. CPO car w/ extended warranty I didn't pay 18 out the door. That Honda dealer actually did full service (all fluids, new tires, etc) to the CPO cars, too. (many don't)

As I stated earlier I would not pay in the teens pre tax, tag and title fee. So maybe 13-14 out the door, if 15 is their bottom, test drive it pretend to really like it, hard ball the money, when they try to strike you out. Get up thank them for their time, tell them you are not interested in paying that amount of money on a 6 year old car and leave. Don't worry the first thing they did is get your phone number, assuming they gave you a real number they will call. Do that at the end of the month you and you might get a call before you leave the lot.

Never leave the dealer paying more than trade in value on anything. Simply refuse to (there are more cars more dealers and plenty of time). It could get in an accident, be stolen or stripped, blah blah risks and liabilities are endless. No one should be willing to be upside down on something as disposable as a car.
Thanks for the detailed reply! I will do it word-for-word like you described it.

This one is Honda CPO as well, but I was assuming they will try to charge me an arm and a leg for it because of that, though I've never had faith in CPO'd cars because like you said, some dealers don't do much and just slap on the CPO sticker...

Hopefully I can talk them down to 13-14 out the door

I used to sell some used cars. Assume there is 4k markup on any price you see AT the dealership, internet prices can be anywhere from 500-8000 extra, but usually on the low side. Depends on where they got the car, we had an 05 SRT-8 300c that we owned for 15k, and sold for 24k.

Anyhow, on to s2k's, I just picked up my 04 suzuka blue for 16k and it had 16k miles on it. However I wouldn't go near that price with double/triple the miles.

Damn your Suzuka was quite a deal!

According to your logic, it looks like you agree with 2ndTimeAround that since this '05 NFR (with Honda CPO) and 40k miles is listed at $18, I should aim for $13-14k out the door as a good deal.

I'll try it. It certainly helps if you worked at a dealer though

Edmunds TMV for "Certified Pre-Owned" 2005 Yellow S2000 with 40K is......$17,400.

$15,900 without the CPO.

Good luck
Yes, I did indeed see that. A friend who works as a sales manager at a different Honda dealer reluctantly told me most dealers pay at either at the "rough" condition for trade-ins OR a $1-2k lower (and possibly even lower if they're getting it at auction). He also told me that it takes $1500+ to "recondition" and make a car meet Honda CPO status, but I'm not sure I really believe that part.

What confuses me is the difference between what dealers pay and what they want to sell it for at retail:

TRADE-IN:
Edmunds rough-avg: $10,203 to $11,566
Nada rough-avg: $9,975 to $11,375
KBB avg: $12,900
Blackbook rough-avg: $9,650 to $13,470

RETAIL:
Edmunds (cpo) retail: $17,511
Nada retail: $15,700
KBB retail: $19,315
Blackbook retail: $17,875-$19,050

% DIFFERENCES = DEALER PROFIT:
Edmunds: 52-72% profit
Nada: 38-57% profit
KBB: 50% profit
Blackbook: 41-85% profit

Those numbers make me believe that we may have a shot at negotiating and bringing the "retail" price down.
I mean, Warren Buffet doesn't pull in more than 20% a year, and the stock market average is 7-8% on a good year.

But when you put it like that, yea it sounds like an uphill battle.

Is there anything fishy with an 07 GPW S2K with black seats and door trim but red carpeting? I thought the GPW with red and black trim came with red & black panels and car seats too.

Interior is red/black, including seats and door panels. This guy said he liked the black better and trade it with his friend if its the same car i looked back a while ago on the for sale thread. He also has the V1 wheels which he liked better. It's definitely not in it's original condition.

Hey all, I haven't had the time to read all of this thread so be easy on me, gonna go thru more of it later today, but...

I found a white MY07 CPO with 9802 miles on it from a Honda dealer. Online asking price is ~$23900, which isn't too far off of KBB/Edmunds. Trade in is ~19K... I'd like to pay between 19-20. You think this is doable? I've honestly never haggled much, and I think the value of these cars seems to be higher in the NE where I am.

Input?

IMHO, I think 23,900 is a bit high. I am in the NE. I Thought there was a good inventory of S2000 in our area when I bought mine back in July/2010. I would think that you should get a better deal in the winter.
