-Official- Is this car worth it thread
it REALLY depends on the car. some owners keep their cars looking brand new even if it's a 00 w/ 100k+ miles on it. if it looks that good and also won't break down on you the week you buy it, then yes $9500 would be a decent price.
if i were you i would try to save up some more as well as wait a few more months and buy one in january or february. you could get a 02 with 70-80k miles for about $10,500 if you look hard enough. but if you must have it that bad then go for it.

It's pretty difficult to purchase an s2k for under KBB. From my experience, private sellers tend to stick to KBB pricing, especially if the cars are limited or somewhat sought after. The price sounds reasonable.
I suggest that you get a third party to inspect the car. Subscribe for a carfax and/or autocheck to be sure. This is only going to cost a fraction of what you are going to spend on the car. You don't want to make a $10,000 mistake.
Good luck!

dude I got a few grand under KBB from a dealer...it's quite doable in today's economy. Just gotta know how to haggle.
I'd tell him $8.5k and he's got it sold, let it marinate, there's a sticky on all the questions you need to be asking.

I bought a MY01 in good condition about 18 months ago. 96k miles, $10k. If you get yours for $8k and it turns out to be clean, it's a good deal.
Hi! So basically I'm torn between two used cars I see.
One is a one owner 2001 Spa Yellow S2000 with around 66k miles selling for $13k. It looks like it's in pretty decent condition.
The other is a 2001 Grand Prix White with 58k miles or so selling for $16k. The white one has 4 owners. This white one seems a bit suspicious though because one of the owners only owned it for 2 months and sold it, but this was the second owner. This one had the top cut open but was repaired, and it also has an aftermarket stereo and rims.
The reason the white one is more expensive is because it's from Carmax. Has anyone here had any experience with them? Honestly it seems like this is not even a fair comparison because the one with a better history is $3k cheaper, but I should let it be known that I do vastly prefer white to yellow. It's not that I don't like yellow, but I just don't want to regret my purchase later on and always wish I had a white one.
Does the white one seem a bit too suspicious for buying? I was hoping that being from Carmax would mean the car's suspension and engine would still be in good condition, but to be honest I don't know how well they inspect their cars at all. All in all I feel like I should just get the yellow one, but I'm afraid I might regret it, so perhaps I should just wait till a white one in better condition comes?
Sorry I'm not very experienced at buying used cars. Any advice would be good. Somehow the fact that the car has aftermarket wheels and stereo gives me a bad vibe.
