Doesn't sound too bad---I would pull the trunk liner as rosario717 suggests and determine the extent of the damage and whether a new panel was welded in or the old one repaired. If it was done at a reputable body shop, chances are the repair is fine. $3000 is not a lot of damage.

On the new top, that's a good thing--10 years is pushing the limits of the OEM top. (flame suit on---I'm sure they'll be lots of posts of folks with 00-02 AP1s with the original top who'll chime in saying theirs is perfect and will last another 20 years....)


I'd rather have one that's been in a minor accident and repaired properly in a quality shop than one that's been modded and returned to stock.

 

good perspective. Im thinking of possibly offering him something pretty low given the accident and see if he will take it. He seemed pretty flexible on the price.

Im thinking of offering up about 13.5k take it or leave it. I might even drive back out tomorrow and see if he will let me pull the trunk liner out.

Where exactly will I see vin tags on the rear quarter panel? And what am I looking for that would be bad, good, etc... Not sure how much I will be able to see from behind the trunk liner.

 

Also, can I actually visualize the quarter panel from the inside of the trunk by just removing some of the trunk liner/carpet?

You can just stare at a picture and visualize it. Use a magnet if you're afraid of bondo molds.

Going to pick this up tomorrow, just wanted to hear any input you guys had on it. I wont be buying the hard top with it, the soft top has a little tear that has been repaired. I will have to adjust the valves and get new CV joints. Good deal?

 

Why were the seats replaced?

 

yeah like black EM1 said, Wonder why the red seats were replaced with black? Not that its a bad thing, i like the contrast.
I would also run a carfax, and maybe get pics of the "hail damage" he is talking about before you make the trip.

other than that, doesnt seem like a bad deal, ap2 wheels are nice too.
