Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and looking to buy an S2000 soon....

I found EXACTLY what I want (ap2, laguna blue pearl with 50k on the clock, and one owner) but they're asking for $25k.

This is through a dealer, and I pretty far away (3-4 hours), so all I've seen are pictures.

The details of the car:

Model year is 2007
55,809 miles
one owner.
Judging from the pics, the soft top and the paint are in good shape. The car is totally stock.

Is $25,000 a fair price? I've seen quite a few other ap2's for under $20k with similar mileage. Think i can talk them down enough to make it worthwhile? I have an RSX that i've got on loan now, and I'm regretting the purchase. So as of now, I'm pretty far underwater, but want this car so bad that i'm willing to take the plunge.

Thanks for the help guys.

Jesus, it's almost as if you're paying anywhere from ~$7k-$10k premium JUST for the Laguna Blue Pearl. I wouldn't do it.

Yeah, when we were on the phone and he said "by the way, we are asking $24,995" I almost threw up in my mouth a little bit. I'm finding quite a few ap2's in California for cheaper than what this dealer is asking. I'm looking up in Washington, btw.

The price would make sense if the car had 10-15k on it. They're on crack.

Cool thanks for the perspective guys. I'll try to talk them down. If not, then i'm off on another long search for an LBP that fits my specifications.

They do not come up for sale very often, around here.

Trust me man, I feel your agony. I'm looking for one too. Although I'm not exactly set on color, silver is probably my least favorite (but they're the most abundant! ).

Just keep waiting for the perfect one for you. I'm giving myself ample time to find the perfect Honda S2000. Besides, the prices on these things drop a bit during the winter times.

Back to your find, there's simply no way I'll pay $25,000 on an used car. I don't care if that color is an one-off.

Re prices coming down in winter: depends on geographic region. In SoCal, our winter is hardly considered winter by anyone else so our pricing isn't as impacted as elsewhere.

Re never paying $25k for a used car: depends on the car and the location. If that is what the local market will bear and if that is what various sources value the car at, then although *you* might not pay it, someone likely will.

OP: In this instance, 25k does sound a *little* high, but for the fact that it has the OEM hard top which is quite valuable (I'm basing this on pricing in SoCal where I'm located). If you don't want the hard top, either ask the seller to remove it and drop the price, or make him/her an offer and sell the hard top yourself after the fact. Go to kbb.com and edmunds.com and run pricing on it commensurate to the condition, locations, and type of sale. Those numbers should give you reasonable guidelines. Note that I said guidelines, not set in stone prices.

Good luck in your search.

It looks as though the cheapest AP2 in that area goes for about 18.... But i'm finding some in cali for 17, and even with sales tax, it's cheaper than the LBP I want.

It doesn't have a hardtop.... Were '07 LBP supposed to have hardtops? If so, i wonder if i could use that for a price drop. This dealer has been in contact with me since it's been in the detail shop, and he understands that I live a few hours away, so hopefully he can be flexible. It all depends on this trade in for the RSX-S and how far underwater i am. I just don't wanna pay on something i'm not IN LOVE with.

Pretty sure the hard top is a Honda accessory for all years.

Hmm. Apparently my brain saw hardtop in your post where there was none. My bad. If there had been, that would have explained the higher price. Hard top was an add-on option for all years. The OEM hard top, which is no longer available new, now commands a high price.

Good luck with your search.
