I generally try to avoid dealerships as they would try everything to get rid of their inventory, but occasionally they do have some good deals. Not this one though.

If you are in the Sacramento area you could show up to a few of our meets to get to know the car better.

But I don't think you should test drive the car unless you know how to drive manual, or else the dealer wouldn't be too happy have you over. Maybe when you go check out a car, bring a friend of yours who knows manual along, better yet, bring an S2000 owner to the scene.

Oh I misunderstood, I assumed you have driven a manual just didn't know to work on one. That being the case, I agree with Kevin above.

If you can drive a manual, this car runs smooth, even though the lot doesn't seem very reputable. The exhaust tips are scraped, but other than that, cosmetically, it is very nice.

But it has been for sale for at least a month and a half and I bet they're dying to sell it because they too have been lowering the price steadily.

Thoughts?

I'd love check the car out in person, but coming from an automatic '91 Integra that I've never worked on and only used to drive to and from work/school, I wouldn't know what to look for or even be able to test drive it.
History report is spotless with no accidents FWIW.

Thanks for the info guys! Not in a rush to buy so I'll keep looking.
I'd also love to come to a meet if I ever get the chance to.

Been VERY slowly saving up for an S2000 the past year and a half only working 8-10 hours a week and going to school full-time and just recently got a full-time job so I'm hoping save up enough money to have one by the end of the year.

And yes, I don't know how to drive manual yet, but one of my family members is willing to let me borrow their '93 Accord to learn, I just need to find the free time to do it.

Hi Everybody,

New guy here. I am thinking about an S2000 as a weekend car. I guess you could say I am in the tire kicking phase at the moment. I am looking for a nice, unmodified daily driver type of car. Medium miles, good condition, and everything working is what I desire.

I wonder what you think of this car: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-S2000-...US_Cars_Trucks

The seller is nearby so I can see and drive the car before purchasing. That said, I am curoious about the interior - have never seen anything like it. Was it perhaps a red interior car that has (mostly) been converted to black? If so, it probably had the interior stolen, but they are showing a clear title.

Other than that I see a big front chin spoiler/diffuser/whatever, missing air box, blacked out Honda emblems, aftermarket exhaust, and no s2k badges.

I'd appreciate your comments on the car and the price.

Thx, Jim

I personally would stay away from that one.

Have you been on a test drive yet? Not on this one specifically, but just driven one in general. There are minor changes year to year but if you're coming from something like a Honda Civic, any year S2000 will give you a great idea of what you're getting into.

So let's say you test drive one and you love it. The next question is, what's your budget? And lastly, how far are you willing to go for the perfect car? 100 miles, 300 miles, a plane ticket?

For this car specifically, that red/black color combination is a frankenstein job. Either the red bits on the back were added separately or the seats/carpets were swapped. My money goes to the seats/carpets swapped, if you look at the two close-up photos of the seat headrests they have obvious scuff marks, almost as if they were stored out of the car and slid around on their backs for a bit.

If this car isn't stretching the budget, let me suggest jumping to a 2006 instead (this is an '05). In 2006 Honda added traction control and drive-by-wire via a new flashable ECU. Being able to flash the ECU is great for tuning, but even if you never use that the traction control is worth the upgrade. Every week or two you read about another owner spinning their car on the street and crashing/totaling it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. I am thinking that is a Frankenstein job as well. Nice way to describe it. I was wondering about the scuffs on the seats. Probably they were scuffed up while being stolen, and then were bought off CL to replace the missing seats in this car. Taking it off the list of potentials; too many possible headaches with such a car.

I haven't driven one yet. On paper I like the S2K because of it's blend of power, style, and Honda reliability. But I realize that nothing replaces seat time. And with a used vehicle, nothing replaces driving the specific example. That's why I am considering only local cars. I live in DFW so there are a reasonable number of cars available within a couple of hours drive. Eventually one that hits the right combination of age, miles, condition, history and price will come up. I have been leaning toward an '06 or later model specifically because of the VSA. Well, that and it's newer. I am figuring budget in the range of $15K-$20K for a good condition, medium miles car.

The 2005 didn't come with the red rollbars. Only the 2002-2003 years had that option.
