-Official- Is this car worth it thread - vol. 2
I found a 2000 s2000 on CL. The motor was swapped and has 85,000 miles and the body has 2205,000. It has a hard top on it, and doesn't come with the soft top. It has exhaust and was de-cated he said that it's throwing a code because of the cat, but wasn't 100% sure. That's about it, he wants 7000 for it, and I really want someone who knows a lot about them to tell me if it would be worth it or not?
I would really appreciate it! And sorry again. If this isn't the right place for this thread, I'm a noob.

Can I have a link?
What's your budget? Are going to want a soft top for those nice top down days? Or are you able to deal with the noise since there is a large amount of space where the top was? It's going to be louder in there than with a top.

What part of the country are you in? It might work better just to have a local enthusiast come with you when you first look at the car.
The engine swap and lack of a catalytic converter are a problem, you'll never be able to live or sell it to someone who lives in a city/state that does emissions testing. Nevermind the fact that the current owner is either clueless about what the problem was (why not just fix it?) or is lying to you to hide a serious problem.
The lack of a soft-top means that if you ever want to drive it top-down, you'll need to leave the hard top at home.
This car sounds like it has had a hard life and the current owner either doesn't know what's up or is trying to dump a project car on you that he's tired of working on.

Agree your friend must fix the oil leak first. Leaking a little oil is like a "little bit pregnant."
But I hate to buy things from friends and usually refuse to sell them anything but new-in-box items. Friendships can be ruined if you/he think he got stiffed in the deal when it breaks down...

I found a 2002 with the following details:
-60k miles
-Original owner
-All maintenance records available
-Clean Carfax
-garaged its whole life
-The owner is currently in his early 70's
-He has only been driving the car 100 miles since 2006 to keep it registered
-It looks mint from the pictures
He is asking 25k but told me he would take the best offer. What do you guys think this car is worth?

He said he hasn't noticed any drips on the floor but he thinks the valve cover gasket needs to be replaced. How easy is it to replace this? Also should I be worried that the transmission needed to be rebuilt?
Been looking for my first S2000 here in the Dominican Republic! Not a vast amount to choose from, and history etc non-existent... Most are heavily modified, too. Prices are high in general for cars. However, despite all the above - what do you think of this one?
It is year 2000 and is going for $12400 (his final offer). No guarantees, etc!

I have many detailed photos from visit earlier today, too.
Has aftermarket 'BC' suspension - is this any good (and can I raise this easily to get the car back to a manageable height for a country with vicious speedbumps)? Didn't get a good shot of the brand of exhaust :/
Thanks,
Gordon

(Really wanting comments on car/suspension, rather than price... If anyone can comment on anything glaringly obvious that I should take into consideration from the photos.)
Thanks!
