-Official- Is this car worth it thread - vol. 2
It's a 2004; that's about 9k miles per year. Certainly not low mileage, but not "kinda high" for a 2004.
I bought a black on black 04 with 74,000 on it a few weeks ago for $13,900. I wouldn't say mine had a full service history, but saw it WAS cared for by the two previous owners. Like the one you're looking at it had no accidents and overall clean. A good buff and the exterior will look just about new. This was bough in Louisiana and I live in Texas FWIW.
Thanks for the replies. From the 16 votes thus far, I just calculated the average worth is $14,843.75.
I'm still running these numbers in my head.
Really? What are you talking about?
At 105K you do the valve adjustment. Personally I'm at 107K runs as strong as new and has no problems with the thrills of a full on track day.
In 09 we bought an 04 with 59K on it for $15.7K.
Are there any maintenance or service intervals that I should factor in? If so, what are they and how much do they typically cost?

71k is kinda high, in no time youll be at 100k which is where u can lose the last bit of value. as far as reliability and if your gonna keep it till the wheels fall off, just make sure its been well maintained and it should run for longer than you live.

Many of us that purchased used S2000's changed all the fluids upon taking possession of the car. That gives you a starting point with fresh fluids, and allows you to know when they need to be done again. If you have some tools and are comfortable with DIY, engine oil, transmission and differential fluids, and clutch fluid will run about $80. Having it serviced will add substantially to the cost for labor, and would depend on who does the work. Brake fluid and air filters could be done for a little more to the total cost.
As for intervals, I do engine oil every 4,000 miles, clutch every 5,000, transmission every 10,000, and differential every 15,000 miles. This varies from person to person, but these are what I do.
Other areas of service/expense are top and tires. A top that needs replacing soon usually runs from $800 - $1600 (can be done for less though), and tires usually run between $500 - $1000 for all 4's. Keep those two things in mind before purchasing, and deduct the cost from the asking price if they are in need of work (ex. bad rear tires = -$400)
On the gas mileage, I personally get a little higher than that - somewhere ~27 mpg highway (when I drive like granny) and anywhere from 18-23 mpg in spirited or city driving. It's a high-performance, high compression engine, and 240 bhp is a lot for a 4 cyl. Gas mileage results accordingly - it's no econo-car, but a lot more fun!
Good luck with the search/purchase, and welcome!

Regarding the gas mileage of the S2k, I was appalled to find the figures to be what they are. Though in reality, my experience seems to indicate it's probably not as bad as the EPA numbers would make it seem (fuelly data seems to indicate average of 24 mpg), quite a few people on this forum were quoting "around town" averages of 20-ish mpg when I searched. This just boggles me, as my 800-pound-heavier M3 with almost exactly twice the displacement, torque, and horsepower gets about the same. And it revs higher than my AP2 as well! I'm sure engine technology has improved since the F22C was developed, but there were only 3-4 years between when those engines were developed. Oh well, the S2k is blast, and at least it does a little better than my M3, at any rate.

Okay guys I found this s2000 a few days ago and I'm trying to see if this a good deal
2006 LBP s2000
79,000 miles
Pros:
Clean title
Matching vin on fenders, hood, and trunk
All stock
Cons:
Common scrapes on the bottom of the front bumper
Overspray on the rubber seal attached to the hood. (Owner said the bumper was repainted due to a bra on the vehicle)
Steering wheel has a few scratches and scuffs
Radio door has slight scratches
Driver side seat has slight wear on the bolster
One wheel has mild curb rash
Scratched hinges on the trunk (Owner stuffed the trunk)
Wear marks are starting to show on the inside of the convertible top
Slight bubbles forming in the dash
Headlights need reconditioning
Various rock chips around the body of the car
No current smog certificate (Past 90 days)
Now I understand this is a six year old car and I'm not trying to be picky, but the owner is sitting firm on $16k. Is this a good deal?

I think it is a fantastic deal. All the negatives you mentioned are either common with this car, and/or common on a car that is driven. Provided that there are no mechanical issues, I would hop on it in a heartbeat.
P.S. LBP ftw!!
