I would buy a more stock car. Start stock so that you can learn along the way and you know exactlly what each part did to affect the handling of the car.
Yes the back glass is that good.
Don't forget compression and leakdown tests.

If you want an AP1, I would stick with an 02-03. Yes the glass window makes a huge difference. The plastic window is total crap and its very difficult to keep looking good... it also cheapens the car IMO. Secondly, I would rather look for a lower mileage stocker than for a magazine featured car. Lastly, aftermarket exhausts can add alot of character to the car, and sure make the S2000 sing in VTEC, but the dreaded "drone" most produce can be hard to live with in a daily driver.

I think I have to agree with you both. I just got back from seeing the car, it's in pretty good shape for being 12 years old. All the work was professionally done and there are reciepts for everything. It's been corner balanced as well, car feels pretty damn solid on the road. With that said, the roof needs to be replaced (I can get a 2002 roof from Rock Auto for less than 500 bucks...I heard it takes forever to put the roof on but that's fine), and I would probably want to go back to a stock exhaust. Even with the inserts the Skunk2 is LOUD, too loud for daily driving. Having those super light VOLK wheels and the balanced KW's would be nice though.. Carfax looks good, no accidents or anything. If I could pick it up for $8k or so it would be worth it I think, but if I can get a 2002 with lower miles and closer to stock for around $11k than I would suspect I would be happier with the $3k I'll save. He did say that it burnt oil, but I'm pretty sure that's very normal on these motors. It idled very smooth and ran through the revs nicely, I would have the compression checked if I moved forward....hmmm....decisions decisions.

First there was never a change in hp no matter what year S you buy (the torque went up 9 in '04). Second, if you want a track car this sounds like a good deal for you as it has been professionally setup for the track. If the top needs to be replaced then do the glass top. There is a good chance that if you bought some other year for that price the top would be an issue. That year and the '01, is the lightest year which is also a plus.
My two cents- my 2000 is a toy so the plastic window is fine. Since the top is down 90% of the time it still looks close to new. Good luck and drive a few other years to get a good idea.

Subjective. If you know the differences it's your call as to what matters to you. If you want feedback you need to provide your preferences and criteria. Randomly polling others with differing preferences won't get you the answers you're looking for.

Impossible to say based solely on this. Inexperienced drivers call the S notchy. Experienced drivers say it has the best shifter out there. From the sound of it (without following the link) it sounds like there are certainly other reasons to skip this one.

I'm considering the hardtop too, thanks for the input. Accidents free and Canadian S2000 seems indeed to have a higher price tag. There are some US ones for sale here and i'm not even looking at them (don't know why actually). I guess i'd rather buy a true Canadian S2000. I saw a 2003 with 55,000km going for 18,000$ CAD earlier this spring, so I guess the price isn't off that much. I was mainly wondering if some people would be ready to pay that price for a 2002 and i guess the answer is yes hehe

I just bought a 03 , it has 76k for $20k, dont believe its high as it was a 1 owner car, no accidents confirmed by inspection and records car proof and fax, Bought from a dealer. All service records and receipts came with car. No modifications of any type. This to me is worth $. My advise is to hold out for a non modified car and non accident one, it may cost you a little more but you get a better car. Drove it on a test drive for 3 hours. What a car, I was leaning to a vette but the wife showed this car tome and I love it.

Been years since Ive been here after I got rid of my AP2 and now I'm back hoping for input and potentially rejoining this forum as a s2k owner. So...

2001 S2000 silver w red/black interior
28,xxx miles
1 female (mature/retired) owner
Top replaced by Honda dealership ~1 year ago w glass rear window
ALL service including synthetic oil changes performed at dealership
Completely stock
Garage kept
Was primarily used as a ~10 mile commuter to work
Nearly Immaculate condition, no door dings, no previous body repairs
All documents, keys, etc included
Tonneau cover was never used

Only flaws are a small knick/scratch in the paint on one side and slightly hazed headlamp covers

This is all info from the owner (colleague's mom), I have yet to see the car outside of pictures...but I have no reason to doubt her. After talking to her on the phone, I can tell that she has a strong emotional attachment to the car and has cared for it like it was a child.

Price is $16,500. I think I can get it for $16.

Thoughts?

Hello all,

I am hoping some people can take a look into this and let me know what they think.

2001 Honda S2000
88,000 miles
Two previous owners (latest being a woman)
With hardtop
Soft top is new with glass
Soft top Tonneau Cover
Spa Yellow
New tires and clutch

I will be asking for the Carmax inspection she just had done.

Was asking 14500 but since she has put money down on a new car I have got her down to 11,000. Is this a good buy?
