After reading this thread ( https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/755...r-differences/ ), it makes me want to wait and get a newer model year. It seems like they added a good bit each year. Not sure if I'm just being picky though. Someone slap me if I am.

Looks just like the one I ended up buying a few weeks ago. Mine is a 2001 - so pretty much the same as the 00 you're looking at. Same int/ext colors. Mine only had 28k miles though so I paid closer to 15k - and it is in nearly mint condition with new tires.
As I mentioned - I'd been on a serious hunt for a while and even though I would have preferred a 2003, and possibly in Black, I jumped on this one because it hit on three other important dimensions - price, miles and condition. I'm totally happy and have NO remorse about it being an 01 at all.
I say go for it.

Thanks for your input guys. I'm glad to hear that uabs2ki, I bet I wouldn't have regret either since I know I did my homework. I'm in kind of a bind though, because I would have to borrow a little money to buy this atm and the wife isn't too thrilled, but I need a car right now (current one is dying). So, it's between this and an '03 Tiburon V6 GT. I own the same car as my current, but have $4-5k in maintenance repairs that needs done. So here are my choices:
S2000 MY00
$10,500
66,000 miles
Dream Car
Great Condition
Tiburon GT MY03
$5,500
23,000 miles (really low)
Great sound system (subs, amp, speakers)
The wife wants me to get the Tiburon, and wait a couple years for the S2K after I knock out the remaining $10k worth of school loans I have and get more funds. What do you "totally unbiased" guys think?

The s2k is my choice. Who wants to buy a tiburon when you can buy an s2000. As you can see, the s2000 has a better value even though its older and has higher mileage than the tiburon. If your friends or coworkers ask what kind of car you drive, would you rather tell them you drive a hyundai or an s2000. it's a good buy but check if she has done the recalls on it though. I read somewhere that usually if a recall has been done, you will see a star or something like this * next to the vin numbers on the firewall in the enginebay. Someone correct me if im wrong? Good luck.
Hello S2K soon-to-be-brothas,
I've been on Craigslist like an effing hawk to find the best deals for an S2K. I found this beauty and I'm just wondering what the people who live and breathe this car think.
MY00
$10,500 (talked her down from $12,000)
66,000 miles
Never in an accident
Never raced or tracked
COMPLETELY stock
Interior looks super clean, even the seats don't look worn with no cracking or rips and is pure black (not the strange red/blue interior which I don't understand)
Soft top w/ plastic window, perfect condition
Two minor-ish dents
New rear tires, front tires with 10k miles
The lady is selling it because she's moving; to paraphrase her explanation.
Based on this description, what does everyone think? Are there any issues with the MY00 that I should watch out for? I heard this first model has some things that can go wrong that other model years don't have issues with.
A lot of S2Ks seem to have interiors with ripping and wear and tear on the seats especially, so this stood out as a better condition car. She has owned it since it was 31k miles and has not had to do anything to it.
Thanks! Looking forward to joining the community.

Thanks for the feedback guys, keep it coming! On the verge of making a decision. The thing is I'll have about $7.5k in my bank account. My mother has a bunch of money she's doing nothing with though, and says she'll lend me a 5 grand no problem (no interest either
). But the $10k school loan is a thorn in my side (graduated last year).
I reallllly want the S2K though. As you all can testify, the desire to have one when you're hooked is crazy high. But the more I look at it, the Tiburon may just be a better investment for me at the moment as much as i hate to say it.
It makes me sad though, seeing such a good deal but I'm already burdened. Do you all think I'm stupid if I pass this deal up and wait a couple years? Or is this a crazy good deal that I can't afford to pass up on? (funny that I'm getting pm's asking me for the link to her ad if I don't choose to buy it
)

Do what you need to do. But IMO she'd be giving it away for 10,500. That kind of deal isn't easy to find. Before I bought my car a few weeks ago, I probably would have paid as much as 13 for it.
Don't recall if you mentioned this - but have you driven it (or any S2000) with your wife in the car - preferably with the top down?
My wife was much easier to convince after she got to take a drive in the car (I actually bought it before she road in it so I had to do a post-purchase sales job).
I'm guessing that I'm a fair bit older than you (sadly) and looking back on things, I probably should have taken a few more 'risks' when I was younger. You certainly don't want to risk your future by over spending now - but frankly, while it's all relative, the delta between $10.5k and $5.5k isn't that much. If you've got a good job and good prospects for the future - I think I'd go for it.
At some point you may need a different car (for kids, job or otherwise) and then all the sudden you're waiting 15 -20 years for that opportunity to get a 'fun' car again.
Note- that if you were looking at a '09 CR for $32k I'd say something totally different.
Good luck and keep us posted.

I've been talking to the guy quite a bit but i am a bit worried about the engine swap. Also the fenders look quite a bit off. Any help's appreciated! i can't really look at the car in person as i live in a different state. But id rather ask people who know more about this sort of thing, and see if its even a good idea to go look at it!
