Official Is This Car Worth It Thread vol 3
What generation miata? I'm an NB convert, no looking back.
I'd think if you get the car looked at for the essentials (compression, alignment) and it checks out, then perhaps another $500 off would make it worth the risk and questions you'll have to answer when you sell it in the future.

Hi all,
I'm looking to pull he trigger on an S2000 soon. I have been in contact with the owner below for a 2007 with approx 20000 miles. He described it as garage queen, never tracked, fully stock. Asking $31000, which seems very high to me.
What do you think a fair offer would be?

That might hold true for those who desire the drive-by-wire models, but some folks actually place a premium on the models featuring the mechanical throttle linkage. You could just as easily say that 2008 and 2009 cars now demand the highest premiums. But I think that a more accurate statement at this point in time would be that as a general rule, all other things being equal (mileage, condition, etc.) the newer the car the higher the price it will bring. In that case you'll wind up paying the most for a 2009 model S2K, so on and so forth. With time though, if these cars were to actually transition from desirable drivers to collectible car status, I would imagine that we would see the low-mileage all-original AP1 cars demanding the highest premiums.
There aren't enough pictures to say if it's worth it or not, but I think that is much too high. 2009's with 20K or lower are in the 31K range, and this being 2 years lower, it should cost less. At 31K, it has to be in 100% showroom condition.
If you are looking for a garage queen as a collector, then it may be worth it if the car is in showroom condition. If you plan to drive it, I would recommend you pay less because as soon as you start putting the miles on, the value will drop. These cars do hold their value, but this one has a premium based on the condition and low miles.
Ultimately, if it's worth the price is completely up to you - it's highly subjective and based on a lot of factors. If that color combo is what you've been searching for, and the condition is everything you want, paying a few thousand more may be worth it so you have exactly what you want. You don't want to spend 25K-30K on a weekend car only to be disappointed when you get in that you didn't hold out for "the one". If it's in great condition, I would call it as worth 27K-29K.
I'm in the market for an S2000, but I'm taking my time and looking for something "adequate" with a decent price, but I plan to drive it, so anything over 22K is out for me. I want stock and well kept, but collector quality would be a waste on me.

Hello All, I'm looking into picking up an S2000. I've been in contact with an owner of a 2001 with 130k miles . https://flagstaff.craigslist.org/cto...472973715.html
I'm waiting on the VIN but he said it hasn't had any major or minor repairs or accidents All stock except for radio and top. It uses about a quart of oil every 1500 miles. He said he doesn't have a lot of maintenance records but he kept up on everything because he never thought he would get rid of it. Any input from you guys would be great! I figured I'd try to talk him down some because of the window and gash in the front bumper.
Thanks!

Curious if anyone can run a Carfax in this or know of this car? Seems like a great deal but don’t want to waste a four hour drive going to see in person. Looks like they tried selling on eBay twice with no luck.

I think this is true. But, most of the inquiries on this thread are from people buying cars to drive, not collectors making investments. Also, at this point I don't think these cars have transitioned to collectible car status. But, I do think that will happen sooner rather than later.

2006 Laguna Blue
62k miles
carfax accident history - front end, bumper paint doesn't quite match, no records, title clean though
aftermarket single exit exhaust (LOUD) and K&N intake - no stock parts
New top and new rear tires
exterior photos all look clean except for the paint match I mentioned above.
I'm thinking that with the accident history and mods which aren't great, this one should be priced around $17k. Thoughts?

I drove my first S2000 today!

I've never owned or driven sports cars before but have always wanted one. After stepping out of our family mini van I was impressed with the power, especially when the RPM's got up over 6000. It was a lot of fun. I was really surprised at how rough the ride was, I don't have much to compare it to since I haven't driven many sports cars (just a few miata's as I've been contemplating buying a convertible lately) but man I felt every little bump in the road. My minivan felt like a cloud when I got back into it! Also, there was a ton of rattling during the drive, I'm not sure if it was from the hard top or the soft top that was down. I'm going to test drive a few more when I have a chance to get a better feel of what is normal and what is not, maybe the AP2's ride is a little different? Anybody have any input on roughness of the ride and the normal amount of rattling?
I was also a little surprised and the amount of little scratches and scrapes all on the car, the passenger door handle on the inside was broken and held together with a bunch of tape! With it being so low miles I went into it thinking that it was going to be mint condition, I guess I didn't think about the fact that it's a 15 year old car.
Here's a list of some others in my area that I'm going to take a look at when I have a chance:

These are just a few of the ones at dealerships, there are a few others at dealerships and quite a few for sale by owner in my area too so there doesn't seem to be a shortage to pick from. Does anyone have any tips or advice as I check these cars out and determine if the S2000 is the car for me?
