Official Is This Car Worth It Thread vol 3
You really think so? I've spoken to a few selling out of province and it's probably the best one I've seen all year where they considered my offer of 13500 Canadian which is around 10k USD for your comparisons. I knew he was gonna try and squeeze a bit more outta me so I figured I'd best give him a fair price. They always bump up the price a bit. It's damn near impossible to find ones that are in Saskatchewan who have passed out province inspection to make it legal here.
Buying out of province is gonna cost me something like 500 anyways to pass and when doing that I don't get to see it much before making a purchase out of province, seems like more of a gamble going that way. Plus I'd probably have to buy a plane ticket or rent a flatbed, truck and gas for additional cost. Cars in eastern Canada like Ontario and Quebec are notorious for rust because of the salt usage and ask 18k obo with similar mileage, which is far more of a gamble IMO. Saw it as paying for peace of mind and less hassle and ofc to close the deal. This one's originally from California and has no rust. It is a different market here. Pretty sure there's a 10% used car tax on cars over 10,000$ Canadian on an import from America too and id still need to pay an inspection and transportation if I wanted to open my search to the states.

Hey bradyn, Emil is from Quebec and has a pristine example of the S2000 and I am from Ontario and and mine have zero rust because it is all about the history of the car. Winter storage in Canada is a must and you know that but you have to find one that has been cared for that way to begin with, good luck man.
@bradyn 14750 no way. NOT EVEN in the same ballpark with those miles and total lack of maintenance done to the car. I would keep on looking. Avoid I would do 11k max for something like that
Keep looking
I looked for an S2000 for about 8 months before I pulled the trigger. I still I got an OK deal but no after owning one. There are already really good topics on what to look for and what not. Owning one really helps to spot the issues.
Just note anytime you get a car from someone you are going to want to do all the fluids yourself so you know it's done right {Unless they have paperwork or proof it was done}
This really adds up, Diff fluid is about 30, Trans is about 40, Oil is about 40, Brake is about 30, and up this is just if you do it yourself. Way more if you pay someone to do it.
Something to note is always going to be the clutch, how many miles is on it? Clutch buzz this is another very expensive maintenance they needs to be done. Anytime a motor has over 100k miles they should at least be on there 2ed or even 3ed clutch with 150 + I would hope so.
Check Values and Adjustment another expensive maintenance they needs to be done. This should always be factored into buying a car; along with the top they have.
Clutch and Flywheel is going to be 750 if you go with a ATC and OEM disk ie the best combo [I LOVE MINE]
If price is a deal you can get a good deal on a salvaged car as well a clean title will help a bit with resale; but if you plan on tracking and keeping the car that isn't an issue.
S2000 are great cars and MADE to be DRIVEN, they are a sexy garage queen; keep looking and find the right one for you

Valve adjustments are usually about $100 at the dealer, or super easy to do yourself with about $30 in tools.
@bradyn, if it feels right, pull the trigger, but if you have any reservations, move on and keep looking. Don't let impatience push you to a car you may regret.
Yeah I guess, my only reservations are unknowns. Time will tell and a proper inspection should adress these concerns. I need to see the undercarriage and have an inspection that tells me if the engine/trans is in decent health because even though it drove smooth, I don't honestly know what to look for nor with confidence.
Assuming its in good shape, no body rust or mechanical issues. What would be a good price to pay for this?

If it's in great condition with no accidents or modifications, it may be worth their asking price, but more likely in the 15K range. It's a 2001, so generally speaking it's of the low-tier of S2000s for value. But, it's a good color combo and the interior looks like it's in really good shape. There's limited pictures... no engine bay or top detail. The top is definitely not retracting all the way, so the straps are shot.
Maybe it's the iPhone tier photo but the front bumper looks like a poorly done color match, it looks slightly off on the front view angled photo. If thats been repainted or the vins don't match then id walk as I'd say that should drop the price 3-4000 on that one detail alone, which at this price their wanting you to overlook.
Disclaimer, I'm talking in Canadian dollars, yes this car is really overpriced but that's a dealership for you. It's def a premium price for a low tier s2k, I'd probably keep looking myself, but that mileage is all that most buyers care about and they know it, most people will overlook the small things in priority of that. In Canada you'd see this posted around 21500 and the seller would really be wanting around 20,000 but probably would settle for 18,000 if it took months to sell. 19000 is what I would call fair. My estimation is assuming the bumper is original.
So if it's worth 19000, and their asking 24000 Canadian theyre vasking for a 5000$ profit over the value which they definitely did not pay in full themselves. Their service is not even worth the minimum 5000 so walk.
