The S2000- A True Drivers Car
Misery loves company or is it the other way around.
It just not good form to "brag" or say how good things are going for you. People complain its only natural.
But my car is GREAT! And I'm a lucky SOB, don't you hate me now. No problems, no grinds, no rattles, its a Honda, its a convertible, its a two-seater, its a 240hp "4-banger" It's beauty is classically inspired, best tranny, great handling, kills 911 turbos and C5s on the racetrack, it only 32 grand.... and so on. Life is good.
So There.
Now, if they would only come up with 290hp NA and 2400 lbs... No, 350 hp NA...

Personally, I stuck a Brookstone indiglo back lit digital clock on the radio cover. Who would expect a notchy shifter from Honda? Most first year buyers never even got to test drive the S2000, and if they did, they probably figured the shifter would work itself in with use and the notchiness would go away. More than a few folks are disappointed by the car's lack of low end torque. It just rankles me when I read someone characterizing those with criticism of the S2000 as "whiners." The car is terrific and in my opinion there's nothing else like it out there. But this forum is where we can discuss the pros and cons of the car. It's not required that we all line up and worship or risk being characterized as whiners.

I agree with all of you who love this car. I've driven a lot of sports cars and I don't recall ever smiling this often before. To whine about things like the floor mats moving, etc. is to miss the whole point of the car. But I do have one complaint... I hate to leave it in any public parking areas -- stone chips I don't mind, but door dings tick me off!
Ditto. But the minute my S2K puts on the weight, I'm ditching it for a younger model!

The S2K is, thankfully, not a car for everyone.
If people find the gearshift notchy, would someone explain what this means to me, please? If they really prefer a rubbery fwd clunky waggle stick, may I suggest a slushbox?
The car is truly exciting. It produces a rush that other cars don't. I have driven a Boxster. That is a superb car for most people and I have respect for it. By comparison, it feels almost like a Golf. Very easy to drive hard, but not as wired, hard edged.
The Lotus Elise is a Kart. Reactive, linear. But it hits a brick wall at 100 and is totally impractical as a car.
I maintain that VTEC is the most addictive substance known to man. Coupled to a super-honed early MX-5 chassis, it has to be the most intense experience off a motorbike or the racetrack.
I think that if the worst criticism is the choice of material for the H-bone frame cover (if you do concur, Rick will alleviate your gripes) that pretty much sums up the car for me.

The only times I regret having this car, are the times when Im not sitting in it. Ive thought about getting the clutch and 1-2 TSBs done, but Im afraid there is a possibility that it may come out worse than when I took it in. Im just careful in shifting from 1 to 2, because gears 3 thru 6 are rifle bolt fast. Torque or not (whatever), this car feels like the faster you go, the harder the car pulls. Its a miracle Im not in the pokey already....it pulls just as hard to 137mph. Im hoping to beat that score when I go to the track though.
-Lips, the dealer told me that there were 48,000 individual parts in an s2000. Twice as many as most all of hondas other products. I dont know....perhaps they were trying to work me for the extended warranty? hahahahahahahahha
I know Im addicted.
