Explain this to me... E36 M3... handles just as good as an S2k on the track and then the straight comes, and you watch an E36 M3 (which is old now) pull away slowly, but still pulls away.

I'm going to guess that the extra 50-70 ft lbs of torque, ftw! I believe the S2K and the E36 have the same stock HP numbers.

^^ lol...they aren't.. but its still nice to have a little extra power

and considering some of the cars andre listed are thousands less..you would hope the S would be able to outrun some of them..especially since the S is defined as a sports car...whereas the others are 5 door hatchbacks and eco coupes...and dont get me wrong i think those others are great cars ..especially the speed3

still it is sad..but i still love my S over those other cars

also, i know our cars aren't meant for the drag strip...and you might consider that those other cars are..
.but those cars, especially the cobalt ss are great in the turns as well..

it might have been car and driver or some other magazine where the cobalt and speed 3 ran equally impressive times compared to the S on a nice road course ..and if im not wrong it might have been a CR

they called the SS one of the best handling cars period....they said to call it one of the best handling fwd drive cars is an understatement

truth is cars are just getting better...handling..power ..everything
Thank You... another perfect explanation...

Cobalt SS at a couple of Auto-Xs that I've been to are doing awesome, running up there with us S2k guys. And I'm not professional but I can definitely handle my own on an Auto-X and they're keeping up for thousands of dollars less.

Believe me... I love the S for everything it is, but I was just trying to show that Honda could really step it up already (8 years later, almost 9 without any changes to motor power) and keep up with the rest of the automotive world.

I'm jus saying that I think it would be more appealing to the customer to see a higher horsepower motor that comes with the amazing handling.

HP numbers are the same at 240 hp... but the torque is much more like you said.

They are pretty equal in the lower speeds, but once the speeds get over 100, wind resistance and other factors are just too great and the torque putout is just small compared to the M3, so they creep away ever so slowly.

lets seee... 08 CR + KW highboost s/c = $46000

making it a car which is track ready with (est)420hp to the crank and a power to weight ratio superior the nissan GTR and will keep up with 911 TT on a road course with honda reliablity....al for half the price

Sounds like a winner to me.

For what Honda charges for an S2k CR ($42,000 I believe), all I have to do is buy a set of Bilstein PSS9s, which have the same spring rate as the CR and are adjustable dampening, and buy thicker sway bars for around $450 for both front and rear combined.

Now for that much money... does that justify being outrun by a Cobalt SS or MS3?... which are probably $15,000 cheaper. For that much money, there should be AT LEAST 300 hp under the hood.

I'm with you OP. I think the car is underpowered. I don't care what anyone says, but more power is never a bad thing - thing is, I wouldn't go FI, just not worth my $.
