S2ks are in trouble
I personally think too many ppl place emphasis on straight line performance. What I always say: "You might be able to beat me in a straight line but I eat twisties for breakfast." My POV is that being able to eat turns up makes you a better driver then driving in a straight line. There's more awareness involved. More things to deal with: tracing a good line, braking, hitting that sweet spot for acceleration when comming out of a corner, setting up for the next turn, watching out for other drivers, etc.. Seems to me like you have more to worry about. But that's just my opinion--Matt

lets seee... 08 CR + KW highboost s/c = $46000
making it a car which is track ready with (est)420hp to the crank and a power to weight ratio superior the nissan GTR and will keep up with 911 TT on a road course with honda reliablity....al for half the price
Sounds like a winner to me.

The same can be done to any of those other cars as well with aftermarket performance.
You have to remember that we S2ki'ers are different... we'll buy a SC or Turbo Kit.
But now if you're a non-mechanically inclined person that's looking for a sports roadster from the factory and you come across and S2k for $42,000 and say the new BMW Z4 M-coupe for I believe to be around $48,000 - $50,000, which would you pick?

Look at AP2Berlina's post above... he has a comparison.

Explain this to me... E36 M3... handles just as good as an S2k on the track and then the straight comes, and you watch an E36 M3 (which is old now) pull away slowly, but still pulls away.

For a guy who "autox's 95% of the time", I'm not sure what you're complaining about. A lot of the autox's I go to are dominated by S2000's.
As for track days, going through a turn super fast is, to me, more rewarding than the top speed I end up with at the end of the straight.
If I wanted a fast car, I would have bought a penis car like a Evo or Sti or used Vette. But I wanted a fun to drive car (not that those cars aren't fun to drive). If there were a quantitative measure of fun to drive, I'm sure the S would only get trumped by a handful of vehicles.
Sure honda could have thrown a turbo on. But I think that would throw off the balance of the car (not weight distribution "balance" but how well all the parts of the car work together).

I'm with you OP. I think the car is underpowered. I don't care what anyone says, but more power is never a bad thing - thing is, I wouldn't go FI, just not worth my $.
To the OP: I'm just gonna repeat what everyone else has said to others posting the same concerns as you...If you knew that the s2k seemed "overpriced" when you decided to get it, then why did you bother? Bottom line is that S2000's are made to swallow S-turns.

I think Honda's fear of going FI is hurting them in todays sport car market. FI allows you to squeeze out more power while allowing the engine to run leaner when you stay out of boost. This way the 2.0L motor could theoretically make 30 MPG, A feat it can't do currently as a rich running N/A powerplant.

If, for example, they made the STi in convertible and it didn't look like someone chopped the top off an already not-so-attractive car then perhaps I'd have bought that instead.
Ok, you guys are forgetting something.. When you pay for an s2k you are paying for decent speed and great maneuverability, but also for LOOKS. You can no way compare an s2k with a cobalt SS in the looks department as it is the same as comparing Charlize Theron to Janet Reno. The price is also as much as some M3's or others because its a convertible. Chevy charges you another 6 grand for a convertible vette.
