I would bet my S lasts longer than a cobalt ss.
Yet again... I mentioned nothing of reliability nor did I say that I would much rather have a cobalt SS over an S.

All I'm saying is look at what other manufacturers are building now for a few thousand less compared to an S2k that is essentially 8 years old and still paying $34,000. For that much, they should have something new on the plate.

Look at Nissan 350z... they pretty much have the same sticker price as when they first came out (they're a little more now) but look at the upgrades they've made. They really have come a long way. They're no longer the slow, fat pigs that we used reference them to.

None of those cars are convertibles!

The S does not stack up well against other sportscars on a price/performance basis.... but it does stack up well against other roadsters (sky/solstice, miata, Z4, boxter etc).

The S2k is plenty fast for me, you can't complain about it with auto-x because you really don't have a whole lot of straights for "an E36 to slowly pull away" from you. As much as I agree that a new engine would be nice, do you know how much it costs to make a new engine? It is not a cheap process, especially when you have a tiny, high revving, high horsepower engine. If Honda wanted to be like everyone else, they could easily put together a motor, stick a turbo on it to keep it cheap and be done with it.

Unfortunately, Honda likes to put effort into their engines (unlike the Cobalt SS, Mazdaspeed 3, etc.).

I agree with the other people.

If you're not happy w/ the S2000, dump it and buy something else, don't be a Honda fanboi. Loss of market share means a lot more to Honda than people bitching on the net.

Never did I mention an E36 being on a straight next to me on an Auto-X. That would never happen anyway cause Auto-Xs are one car at a time doing solo runs.

I was referring to someone's comment about being on a track.

You are right about Honda putting time and effort into their work which is more money, but they've had quite some time now to make the necessary R&D to come up with something new. Nissan did it... so it's not like it can't be done.

I wasn't necesarily responding to you, it was to whoever had posted that. But you did bring up quarter mile times and then mention auto cross which really don't go together. I agree with you about more power out of the S, I'm not trying to trash the things you're saying or anything. Actually, a friend of mine and I were just talking about how cool the NSX would be if they could pull 118hp per liter out of their 3.2 (if they were to redue the engine). Then people couldn't really complain about it being so "slow" or underpowered.

But alas, something like that would cost quite a lot. I'm still anxious for the new NSX anyway. Finally, a V10.

Talk to a Cobalt owner as the miles start to rack up... maybe I'm old school... the s2k is a SPORTS CAR... you want an affordable point and shoot car... there are plenty out there for way less than an s-car. Pick you up an 86/87 Buick with that hairdryer V-6 and you'll have all the fun you want... I've run them for nearly 20 years and almost fall asleep making high to mid 12 passes all night long... but it got real boring and how many nights can you hang out at the burger stand showing off your new injectors.... yawnnnnnn.

I see the s2k as being as close to a pure driving experience... kind of a civilized Lotus.... we get bonus points because if we treat the cars right we'll never be on a first name basis with a service advisor... just one man's opinion... you got to understand and appreciate what these cars all about, as many of you know all too well.... if you're confused I'm sure the general would love to have some business.

You have to admit though... those Grand Nationals are pretty bada$$... lol.

I'm not confused... just eagerly awaiting something new for the power department of the car, just like Honda did with the NSX. They finally caught on and realized that they'll probably make more sales if they slap a V-10 in there. Now you have superior handling with on par power = domination!!!!
