Went from AP1 to AP2v2, some thoughts
Yes, they are both great cars.
Some thoughts. Since Car and Driver was mentioned, in their reviews of AP1 their few minor complaints included lack of torque. I even recall reading they suggested Honda should stroke the motor for a bit more torque, even at the expense of redline. Honda did that, in the US at least.
Of course, then C&D awards F20 the best NA engine of all time award.
So what does this tell us?
The historic value, and the 'usable' value of a car often do not align. Often the collector value of the first version of a groundbreaking car is worth more than later versions, even if refinements and 'improvements' are made in subsequent models.
When such cars were 'new', the refined models are almost always the more desirable. But from a collector pov, the original, the one that broke new ground, is the landmark, desired model.
So I suppose when considering 'better S2K', not only do we have to contend with which attributes of ap1 vs ap2 do we value more (everyday usable torque vs intoxicating redline), we also have to contend with pov, as a historic achievement vs as a current, fast, fun car.
So relax. Enjoy whichever S you own. Appreciate the attributes of the one you don't, even while you prefer those of the one you do. Respect the pov of other owners, whether they see the car as one of the best sportscars to own today, or as a groundbreaking sportscar that, unlike so many others, is still affordable...

Ideally, I agree..... Keeping the F20c with all other upgrades would have maintained "the essence" of what was originally envisioned. I don't know why these guys cannot understand the greater point of what I am trying to make...... but MOST of the world kept the F20c engine for most of the S2000's run. Why??????
It feels like the point you are trying to make is ap1 is better.
The reality is one is better for some things, the other is better for others. Depending on what of those things is more important to you determines which car is better, FOR YOU.
We won't try to tell you ap2 is better for you, ok? Don't try to tell me ap1 is better for me.

Ugh!!!
I NEVER said Ap1 is better. In fact I conceded Ap2 had improvements that made it an "evolution" of original.....
My point is that the AP1 is the more "important" car as far as being a part of automotive history....... It goes without saying that Honda improved upon aspects of original design but the one thing I will not concede is the engine....
Honda should have stayed true to F20c as it did in most other countries because that was what made the s2000 "special". Truly special....

It is was what it is bro, no point in trying to backtrack now. Either way, no one is asking you to concede anything, just stop the circle jerk. It's well beyond ridiculous.

Hey "BRO"... why so sensitive???? And as we all know, the AP1 is well known for being harder to handle than an AP2... So "watered down" fits.... Not anything other than objective statement.....
The AP1 isn't any harder to handle in reality; the back end can be slightly twitchier in stock form, but it's not like the difference is so great that you can call the AP2 watered down. FYI, this thread has taught me that there is no such thing as an objective statement when referring to your assessment of the S2000.
