03 ECU in an 00 AP1?
Ok, I got it guys. Here's the BLUF (bottom line up front): You get a new ECU, you're going to have to get your current key reprogrammed. Even if you have the key that came with the new ECU, the key will not fit the tumbler in your car. I just swapped mine tonight and I didn't get to drive it around much, just back to the house, to notice much of a difference.

If you get a matching key with a used ecu, you will not need dealer reprogramming.
If you SELL a used ecu, grind the key cut off so the key cannot be used to come back and open your doors or unlock your ignition. The buyer only needs the chip, not the key.

It's simple. You need the 00 ECU and 00 key to be from the same car. The ecu and key must match
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I wasn't able to find a clear answer... It's been said that simply placing the key next to the ignition key won't start the car... So if one has the matching ignition key with a used ECU, how are you able to start the car using the original key in the tumbler?
Found it. Ohh. Further reading says to cut a temp ignition key from a non-immobilizer key blank. So prob can't have two immobilizer keys in proximity.
For me, I just drove my 00 car to the Honda dealer with an 03 ecu and nothing else. They charged me 1/2 hour to install the ecu an code my keys to the new ecu. That's it, done.
They gave me my old ecu uninstalled. Do a search on my old threads and you will see my review. The difference is subtle but noticeable.
Good luck
