Fisch has been around a long time and is no troll. He is pretty vocal/crude/blunt in his problem description but what he is saying is not unbelievable. There are indications that I will continue to have transmission problems after the TSB work, and engine, clutch, and diff problems are a real possibility with this car.

I'm glad I couldn't afford the car last year. It appears that all those problems have been fixed in MY 2001. Unless, it is just too early to tell. MEGA Satisfied so far.
VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOM!!!
Sounds like VTEC to me

Small block Fords are a bit narrower and slightly longer than the SB Chevy, so it is probably a better fit in the S2000.. also lighter. In fact I bet you could build a Ford that would only weigh ~100 pounds more than the stock four cylinder and easily put out over 350/350. But then you would have to squeeze in a different tranny, diff, exhaust, rework the suspension, etc, etc. You would be better off selling the Stook and buying a Cobra kit.

Well, maybe the fact that you've driven it 38000 miles in less than two years can have something to do with it. It seems that most people on this site are EXTREMELY pleased with their car, as am I. :-)
good point - the car doesn't like to be "driven" huh?

dude, try 39.5K miles and it was in the shop for 3 months. i also got 33K out of the OEM S02's!! mebee that will shed some light on how i drive. can you say highway miles on cruise control? soooo, i baby this car.

hahaha, i made one payment on the car befo' it got wrecked - 12K miles and yes it crunched before the wreck. just FYI, my old lady snuck the car out and got intimate w/a half ton jimmy PU. if I wreck this car, i WILL die in the accident.

it's a love hate relationship w/this POS. (piece of shit).

i seriously doubt the "tolerance build up" excuse. tolerance build up from a japanese manufacturer???? WTF? have they forgot everything dr. deming taught them about SPC and quality??? ever hear of the deming award?

what no control charts? what happened to keeping your process 1 SD from the mfg tolerance center point?

more likely the mfg process is tits (precise), and the design is in question.

so, this problem has been addressed on the 01 MY??????? somehow i don't think so. if it has, then i want an 01 tranny.

****ing $40K piece of shit. i'm getting a used 911 or something.
<tolerance>
Yes, it can happen. The reason the Japanese cars run so well is they perfect what works. The S has a new transmission for Honda.

1 sigma doesn't mean a thing. The US aerospace industry builds to 3 sigma. Things still fall though the cracks. Components fail. That's life.

You don't have enough information to say where the problem comes from. For every person with a problem, I bet there is a 100 with no problems.

<****ing $40K piece of shit. i'm getting a used 911 or something.>
Then do it and stop complaining.

[B]bman, my apologies on the 1 SD thing. i'm ignorant, so help me here - if your design tolerance is .002+/- and you keep most of your parts within a third of that spec or better, couldn't you avoid a shitload of tolerance build up issues?

Great response Brent, I agree and appreciate the information.

I think Honda has enough racing experience to build a good trans. They produce a lot more than just economy cars.

Is anyone racing the s2k's having severe trany problems? If so has anyone replaced it with somthing better?

My problems with my trans have not been severe. Other than the change in sound of 1st and 2nd. It has grinded about 10 times in the last 7 months, and some of that is probably user error. I drive pretty hard too.

That really sucks about your US car. That's one very small aspect of America that I'm not proud of. All of my cars, trucks and bikes have been asian.
