Default findings tonight

Had an AP1 with a 2.2 out here tonight for the once over. While doing the valves, most of the intakes were around .010-.012, which is a normal finding. I set them to .008.

On the exhaust, 5 of them were about .010-.012. Normal finding.

The other three were each .005, .006, and .007. both on cylinder 2, and one on cylinder 3. This is way to tight obviously, I set them to .010. The difference in the car's performance was night and day, as you'd expect from this.

It's hard to say what has happened here. The motor was used, and maybe had a botched valve adjustment from the previous owner.

This likely may be an isolated case, and will likely need no big discussion. I have NEVER found a tight valve in an AP2 to date.

So...if you have a 2.2 going to 9k in your AP1, and you see this thread, please post it up if you find tight valve and maybe we can see a pattern. Hopefully not

I haven't lashed any 2.2's, let alone any that decided to rev to 9K.

If they did, they wouldn't bring it to my shop

But you can't rev a 2.2 to 9k, it will explode and destroy the world as we know it!

Even so, I'll bet this second car has more 2.2 miles than the first. I'll find out.

it's my ride and I've put about 15k miles on the 2.2. for the first half of those miles I drove it hard but avoided 8500+ as much as possible. for the last 7-8k miles I've been beating the piss out of her reving to 9k regularly. my only worry is that I might blow the flux capaciter and then I won't be able to make it back to 1985

I gotta give some major props to bill. it was like driving a different car home, 5-10 more hp and the car feels and sounds much better. thanks home boy, you da man.

-Sam-

btw I said it before but traveling to billman for service is always worth it no matter how far you live.
