Default oil change

I tried searching, it must still be down. But MY02 is about up for its first oil change since I have owned it. I have 10xxx miles on it and its about time for the change. I know I have to get a s2k filter from honda, no biggy, but what oil should I run. The stuff from honda or like mobil one synthetic? and what weight should I run 5w-30, 10w-30?? Please let me know, Thanks guys

To summarize the journals:

Since you are over 10k miles, it is now "safe" to switch to synthetic. Mobil 1 10w30 is a popular choice, as well as Redline, Amsoil, Castrol Syntec, etc. Ofcourse you can still use the OEM (dino) oil from Honda.

Get the Honda 15400-PCX-004 oil filter from the dealer and accept no other from them.

Finally, read the oil journals linked above.

At current time, our local tribologist recommends Havoline GF4 conventional oil. Apparently performs just as good as many synthetics. However, if you want to go more miles (over 5000) between oil changes, then stick with a synthetic.

Acquire an owner's manual if you don't have one. Then read it. These and many other questions are covered within.

If you go with Mobile 1 synthetic... be ready to buy more quarts before your next oil change. This stuff gets eaten up like crazy compared to dino oil.

It may be true with older S2000, but my '04 S2000 had Mobil1 for the last 1200 miles without using any oil. But the oil in my crankcase is a mix of 4 quarts 10W30, 1 quart 15W50 and 1/2 bottle of Valvoline SynPower Oil Treament.
I am using Synthetic oil because I am planning to do oil change once a year or 7500 miles, most likely it will be changed at 1 year limit, since I may not drive it more than 7500 mile/year.

'04s are not known to use much oil (if any) anyway. If you used just plain old dino oil at the recommended SAE of 10W30, you probably would not have used any either.

So basically, with your concoction, you are running 11W34.

Those who do not put on the miles to meet the criteria for mileage intervals, should be going by the "time" interval ("whichever comes first"). It's only miles that kill oil. It's also time.

I do not know if it is 11W34 or 12W35
I think that Mobil1 10W30 is a little thinner than conventional oil of the same grade, subsituting 1 quart with 15W50 would make it a little thicker. So far, the engine did not explode to bits yet
