Regrease shifter DIY

You'll need to remove shifter ball, and unplug the connections revealed from ligting the top. You may need to pull up hand brake too. But then you'be able to fully remove console lid, and expose the shifter base, to get at the bolts needed to remover shifter and apply grease.
1. The whole console doesn't come out does it?
2. Just the part with the black edge on top of the console?

I didn't break the plastic ring, but I did break the new plastic tip. Make sure you soar in hot water or heat it up before putting on. Just get the plastic rind and new pivot ball before doing the job, they are cheap.
2. Plastic ball cap: $22.60
3. Why does the plastic ball cap or "tip" need soaked in hot water?
Ball is $2 not $22 LOL.
As said above, you want to heat up the plastic to its not a fragile.

A. Strange, I must have heard him wrong, or he read the wrong thing off the computer, b/c that is what I have written down.
B. No matter, I didn't have to pay for it, they are just ordering the parts in case in need them, which, I'm hoping I won't.
Thanks.
Easy DIY...took about an hour or so. I purchased the boot ring and pivot cap but only used the cap.
MY00, 105k. It was definitely time for this... the old stuff was trashed.
Bought the car recently so I can't say its as good as new, but a noticeable improvement.

I just re-did this to replace the snap ring I broke in the original DIY and while I had the shifter out, I replaced the pivot boot. After 84k mi, it was slightly flat-spotted but otherwise in fine shape. Once again, new grease and the new pivot, and the car shifts great.
Hi Guys,
Looking at doing this to my S. Just a question, there is a picture in the first post that shows the empty hole when the shifter has been removed. Am I supposed to clean the inside of this hole as much as possible and then put grease in there too? Or should I only put it on the shifter part I remove?

Both. Inside that 'hole', or cavity, is a lever with a hole in it, which the plastic thing on the end of the shifter neatly drops into. You want the interface between ball on end of shifter to plastic thing lubed, and you want the interface between plastic and that hole in lever lubed as well. Lubing both sides makes sure you got enough.
Under the lever with the hole is a sort of floor, which is top of trans. There will probably be a lot of old nasty grease there too. So try and get a paper towel down there and clean that stuff out too. The lever thing is kinda in the way, so not so easy to get down there. Don't worry about making that area spotless. No need to really add any lube to this area.

I regreased my shifter this weekend. Bought more parts than I needed to... I'd only replace the two plastic pivot parts.
Getting the bigger piece off was a major pita. Putting the new one on was easy enough with some kind of surface with a hole to use as a press.
Unfortunately the smaller piece is not as durable... mine cracked when I was putting it on, even though I was as careful as possible.
I just stayed with the cracked piece since it didn't seem to matter too much.
edit: Looks like hot water would help protecting the small pivot cap from cracking... I should have read the whole thread
Getting another one shipped from Majestic Honda would be $12.90 + $13.50 S&H. Yikes.
Shifting is massively smoother after the regrease, but I was hoping neutral would have less play... didn't seem to affect that at all. I guess that's controlled by some piece in the actual transmission.

Edit: there's no excuse for not resizing your pictures
