The Vintage Weather Thread
I'm seeing maps showing places in NC (Charlotte/Raleigh) and SC (including Charleston) getting get 8-12" of rain through Sun. It appears southern VA (Norfolk/Virginia Beach) will get 5-8" and our area and points north 3-5". These seem to be from a cold front and tropical moisture moving up ahead of Joaquin. It's hanging around the Bahamas for the next three days and moving north on Sat. Lots of uncertainty. Good luck to anyone affected, which really could be anyone along the whole East Coast into NE.
^^ I've been watching as well, MsP. We've already had (as you know) lots of flooding in Garden City, NMyrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Pawley's Island, Litchfield and Georgetown. Streets have been closed off and some folks were cut off. So far it has been business as usual as flooding is not uncommon here and it recedes rapidly. Tides have been abnormally high and we're expected heavy rain through the weekend.
NONE of this has anything to do with Joaquin, which isn't expected to hit anywhere near us until sometime next week. The monsoon has descended with a vengeance.
We had a great morning and until 2 today the skies were clear and temps hit around 85 with EXTREME humidity. It is now stormy and rainy, on and off.

SC governor announced State of Emergency here too. The storm started yesterday afternoon and we'll have more until at least Sunday. Storm drains were already taxed and we've had lots of flooded streets in areas all around us for days. So far, so good here. Doesn't look like we'll get a direct hit, but wow, lots and lots of water.
