off road/SORN fire & theft insurance?
Just wondering, do you guys insure your cars when off the road for the winter? I was going to go without but on second thought fire and theft would probably be worth having?
Do you use your normal insurance companies or are there any recommendations for insuring cars in storage? Mine will be in a garage.

I have tried and all the quotes have had have been a lot more expensive to insure the car for fire & theft locked in a garage than fully comprehensive. I don't understand the logic of it but I don't take the risk of not insuring it so I insure it fully comprehensive.

May be covered in home contents insurance.<if you have it>
dont usually have "S" insured in winter <under my house>in garage
been offered it once taken off road before was fair price<non road use>not sure on NCD if it continues, may be worth extra NCD if not broken the term.
better price i think from standard TPFT including road use ect.

I think insurers look at a car locked away in a garage as being at more risk than being parked on a drive as once broken into a theif has a place to do his stuff unobserved, especily if it's laid up and not being seen dat to day. You could try adjusting your yearly mileage to take into accout the off road months.

Well, I got fire and theft for £112 from sorninsurance.co.uk - seems pretty good to me. Covers 12 months.
Good to have fire as I'll be running a trickle charger, my luck being that it goes wrong and burns the S

some 'classic' policies will give you a discount for 'lay-up' cover. Most don't seem to these days so I just keep mine going on my normal 'modern classic' limited miles policy. Just don't forget to let them know you are SORN'ing and parking up for the winter. I know it shouldn't affect the cover but you can bet they will use it against you if your car gets nicked/burnt and you didn't tell them...
