Default weird vtec issues...help needed

it seems at the moment whenever i take my car into vtec (especially for the first time on a drive) the car immediately wants to stall when i next come to a stop and depress the clutch. revs just drop like a stone and the engine cuts. a trifle embarrassing when you have just zipped off the lights....etc

also, i have another very odd sympton...my clutch pedal immediately becomes very 'soft' before firming up slightly soon after...

hope someone has experienced this and can offer some help? many thanks!

Check your engine oil level before you do anything else.

Clutch thing sounds weird!

also had a history of juddery idle and stalling although had tappet clearances done and that seemed to help. this was only about 12 months ago. is it time for tappet clearances again?

Massive power loss at about 6500rpm when the car is cold?
You do know it has a 2 stage rev limiter don't you?

Do a search on Map Whack.

Often the MAP sensor can stick and it needs a 'tap' to free it up.

yes i knew about that

it wasnt when cold, it was after a 15 mile trip and it happens at any time but i only vtec when engine is properly wam anyway.

its as though one of the sensors is confused by me suddenly flooring it, and it doesnt react in the correct way when i next come to a halt ie revs drop too low and it stalls. its annoying as it puts me off going for it(probably a good thing at the minute! haha)

i think it is probably MAP/O2 sensor related...but is the tappet thing also a real cause of this kind of thing?

all suggestions welcome folks
