Got a set of RE30 with the spec of 17X7.5J +50 and 17X9J+63.
What are the appropriate tyre size for this wheel?

Thank you.

215/45, 245/40
215/45, 255/40
225/45, 255/40

I'd go with 225/255.

Hi everyone. I recently picked up a set of Mugens with the following specs: 17 x 7.5 +52; 17 x 8.5 +59. I was thinking of pairing them up with Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R tires in 225/45 and 245/40.

Should I instead stay at 215/45 and 245/40? Is there any advantages to other setups for these wheels like 225/45 and 255/40 or 215/45 and 255/40? This will be my summer setup where I will go on spirited, relatively short trips and will never see rain. I'll probably visit the track a handful of times (<5) but mostly intended for the street. Is there a more appropriate tire choice? I've landed on these RE-71Rs after some research but I definitely value the opinions of those on this thread.

Thanks for any advice.

Pulling the trigger on some Advan rg-d and just need some help with tire sizes. The wheels are 17 x 9 +60 and 17 x 8 +54.

Going to be going with potenza re71r's. I've seen people running 235/40 front and 255/40 rear but they were on the Yokohama ad08's which I've read run wider than most tires. With the re71r's should I stick with the 235/255, or could I squeeze out 245/265? I'll be about 1-2 finger gap dropped all around.

The fronts are the biggest fitment consideration. You could do a 235/40 but not a 235/45. Otherwise stick to a 225/45 front and 255/40 rear. 265/40 is going to be more pitched on a 9" rim and taller as well, lengthen your gearing. Don't really think marginal increase from an already extremely grippy tire is worth those tradeoffs.

did some more reading and the re17r don't come in 265 for 17, nor do they come in 235/40 only 235/45.

the ones that do come in those tire sizes that ive seen on tirerack are direzza zII star specs, yokohama ad08, falken azenis rt615k and rt615k+, and toyo proxes r1r.

i'm leaning towards the star specs as i've only read good things. any advice on which tire? there will be no track use, just sunny summer days only. this is my summer car.

Thank you everyone for all the input and help so far, it has been invaluable

will these work on an AP1 without mods?
https://www.rayswheels.co.jp/products/wheel.php?lang=en&wheel=TE37SL
17x7.5 +40 in front (tires 225/45)
17x8.5 +40 in rear (255/40)

i saw them installed on a FR-S and thought they would look even awesomer on my car.

Hey all
Sorry to ask this question, as I know it's frowned upon. I've read through pages of this guide and am still confused about the sizing and offsets, especially due to my car being lowered.

Details:
Year: 2002
Current: OEM AP1 16" wheels and tyre sizes
Suspension: 25mm lower (H&S Springs and Koni Yellow shocks on firmest settings) - recent geo and in-spec.

Looking to buy:

Ideally, I'd like to try and stick to OEM Ap2 sizes if possible for running costs and handling. Wouldn't mind tyres filling arches a bit better, but definitely don't want rubbing or stretching of tyres.
From research, its seems that the 17"'s only come in fixed widths, and the 18"'s come in .5 increments.
If that is the case, would 7j/9j combo work with near stock size tyres and if so, what sort of offset would I need? How does the lower suspension affect the offsets?

Always best to look at the actual wheel manufacturer to see what sizes they actually offer. Width isn't the only measurement that matters with fitting a set of wheels. As import is the offset. For the 17's on these in the 7/9 stagger you have the option for a 17x7 +53 which is pretty friendly to the S2000 though since you are lowered you may still need a roll but could probably get away with out one if you are careful. The rears are an issue though since the highest they offer is a +38 which definitely requires you to roll the fenders and relocate the tabs and if you are doing that you may as well run a lower offset in front and roll the fenders since it will look more even front to back. Assuming you do the correct fender mods you can fit OEM ap2 tires easily and even do the CR sizing (255/40/17 in the rear) easily.

The 18's have a similar issue. The 18x7.5 +53 fronts are pretty reasonable but the rear are a problem. The most conservative option would be the 18x8.5 +47 which may be able to get away without a fender roll though I would bet your get some rubbing. If you wanted the 18x9.5 +38 for the rear it is even more of an issue than the 17 option above and would require the roll relo and alignment to fit. For the first option here you should be able to do a 215/40/18 front and 245/35/18 rear but again I can't be 100% certain you won't have rubbing issues with unrolled fenders. For the second more aggressive option with the 9.5 you could run the same tire sizes but it will look stretched and a 255 will make fitment more difficult. Not impossible but difficult.

Overall I would say the 17 sizes are a much better choice. Though you would still need to roll your fenders tires are much cheaper.
