TBF the 'free' Honda 5 year service cost £500 if bought with a car when new. When selling, any unused is a tangible bonus to the next owner (I think it goes with the car).

Also 33p/kWh is for those not using an economy 7 stylee tariff. Chris was saying 5p/mile so my guess is that he was paying ~15p/kWh?

The car costs very little. In my case 5k miles costing £130 is 2.6p/mile. Average kWh cost of 9.5p.
Total fuel bill to date £130 on 'Agile' then 'Go' Octopus tariffs
I drive for range unless someone pisses me off

Been looking at an EV again , looking at the Reno Megane and Kia what ever it is , both have claimed 280ish , real world winter 200 ish range

The Megane currently has dealers falling over themselves to supply , but we shall see once we start turning up at dealers with the old carrier bag !

interesting recent reliability surveys inc What car show Honda now lagging badly , even worse than Renault , only car in the Honda range that continues to do well is the Jazz.

the Renault Soe still has terrible encap rating , although some of that is down to lack of reversing camerspa and sensors which I understand has been addressed , but it still has issues with frontal impact

As part of a work promotion im moving from a ENV200 electric van to a Cupra born 58kwh car. There aren't many cars that interested me but having had a Volvo EV cancelled, MGZS cancelled i chose a car based on looks and not much else. Ordered it last may and its due to be delivered 25th April.

It would be nice to have a decent car to go alongside the S2000 but the Vtec noise cant be beaten by many cars on the road.

Very few Honda's are now made in Japan and if the bikes are anything to go by you can tell the difference.

They are not what they used to be but aren't making any BEVs anyway as far as I am aware (beyond this skunk job)

Isn't the jazz Chinese now?

I had a Citroen once, worst car I ever owned. Her Nissan is a Sunderland car, cheap, awful dynamics but very reliable.

@arsie they may have charged you £500 for 5 years but they don't have anything to do really.. no plugs, coolant, oil, filters.. just brake fluid and a cabin filter and then even the wear items like pads are probably super long lasting

Not looked at where Jazz is made now since demise of Swindon , we had a Japanese Jazz which did 140000 miles with zero expenditure other than routine servicing tyres and brakes. It was much better build that the current Swindon one I am using as a hack and van, it’s seriously tatty inside and out but no rust, that’s done 96000 miles zero cost as well. It’s returning about 50mpg pretty much same as the earlier 1.4 twin spark.

The prime concern for a car for us is the wife’s bottom , it’s very sensitive to seat shape! So far the Megane is out in front followed by the Kia , she currently has a Quasqui which she loves , how ever the new one in her opinion is a no go due to seats! Not sure about the self charging Hybred , don’t see the point your either going electric or not !

The Leaf is now dated , and due for replacement using the Megane drive train and platform supposedly , that platform is also the basis for the Nissan Ariyia. Nit sure about Cupra but lots of comment about VW ID cars having very clunky in car systems and a lack of simple buttons for major functions , and my experiance of Audi and VW was that they suffer from On board software issues.

what’s annoying about new car costs is they only want u to buy on finance ! And hence a car on finance shows a cheaper purchase price on the likes of car wow , but Renault dealers and Kia have both said they will match and beat car wow prices come the day ! We will see but it seems so many people don’t shop around any more and negotiate , I know my wife wouldn’t !

@Nottm_S2 I thought your 10-year projection figures for the 'e' were a slightly false picture. If you include £0 for service and £0 for tax in your first 5 years you ought really not to extrapolate for the second 5 year period. It isn't happening. More realistic if you are comparing the true cost of 10-year ownership from new to include the up front cost of the 'free' service for 5 years and also the road tax coming in the second 5 years (£165/year currently) not mumble about not having crystal balls. Also I think your ignoring the fule savings possible by taking advantage of real world BEV tariffs is somewhat head in the sand.

Hey but lies damn lies and statistics we all use numbers to justify gut feel. It's probably swings / roundabouts over stating fuel and ignoring actual tax / service costs.

There is method in my madness @arsie (living up to your name)

I don't know what the road tax might be for the e - if it's £165 when my brother's dirty diesel seat pays £0 I will be very cross (but let's face it, the Tories won't be deciding this one lol)

A petrol or hybrid or diesel requires basic maint items every 12m... Air filter, oil filter, oil..I've priced that in and ignored the rest as that is the difference and we are looking only for differences not an accurate financial model but a comparative one

There are 3 things on my e service list
Pollen filter (same as ICE)
Tranny fluid (same as ICE)
Brake fluid (same as ICE)

That is it Vs for an s2000

Engine oil & filter - annual, even at oil cost it's £60 for me doing it probably)
air filter - 3 years
Trans fluid - 7 years
Diff fluid - 3 years (I do it every year on the SC)
Plugs - 5 years
Valve clearances - 3 years
Fuel filter - 7 years
Coolant - 5 years
Pollen filter
drive belt

After my service plan I am nowhere near a stealer. Period. People who pay £200 for a guy to park your car on a lift, raise it and video underneath are nonces. Fact.

I have the same issue as you with the OH, also in a 12 plate much abused Nissan

I think rental might be the way for her next car as shitboxes don't cost so much more and she does not take care of them and I don't drive em

The e was expensive to rent or hp in all its forms but there is an opportunity cost of your cash pile which needs to factor in..

If you don't care about the end result just take whatever they can't sell on a cheap lease is my plan (for her)

For me the e stays till I get bored but I likely won't bother replacing it with anything if I do sell it

@Nottm_S2 arsie or not, you weren't clear you were targeting DIY servicers. Your personal goal is to replace the 'e' with a few year old ICE which you will DIY fair enough.

But a lot of punters including myself simply pay dealer invoices to get stamps and be able to say FSH come sale or trade in time. Same with the £500 up front on a new 'e' for them to halve the annual bill for 'servicing' for the first 5 years. I don't think that makes them nonces just members of the majority that use dealer servicing (at least for a new car and for a few years thereafter). Your numbers should come with a DIY caveat I'm not arguing with your estimates as such.

UK Jazz has been made in Japan for quite some time.

Civics have been made in Japan since Swindon closed.

Newest shape UK market HR-Vs are also made in Japan.

Not sure where the CR-V is currently made, but new model is due soon and I expect UK bound cars will also be made in Japan.

Chris.
